I've been to Homefire Grill several times and I always find the food and service to be excellent. Unfortunately, I can not say the same about my most recent visit. Six family members and I attended on September 18th to celebrate 2 Birthdays. The server acknowledged this and inquired as to who was having Birthdays as the restaurant staff will acknowledge us later; this never actually occurred. We ordered 2 baskets of bannock and the spring rokes as an appetizer; both were excellent. When ordering, 3 party members ordered pasta dishes, 2 ordered the steak sandwich, and 2 ordered the Chop. One member ordering a pasta dish was asked if they wanted garlic toast, which they agreed. When the meals arrived the 2 who weren't asked about garlic toast received 2 pieces, while the one who was asked received 4? Why exactly did the server asked this question when clearly garlic toast is included with pasta dishes. Clearly an unnecessary upsets...not impressed. When the Chops arrived, one plate had a chop almost double the size as the other plate, with almost twice as many fries. I pointed this out to the server and asked how there can be such a disparity with the exact same order. His only response was "you'll have to fight over the larger portion," after they had already been set before each person. I considered sending the meal back, although I was hungry and didn't want to wait for another dish. The steak sandwiches had good flavour, although the steak was difficult cut and chewy. The lasagna had good taste, although was not layered with a pasta sheet as would traditionally occur with this type of dish. One Chop was very well done, although the smaller chop was very dense, difficult to cut with a steak knife and overly seasoned with salt. We asked the bill to be divided into 5 seperate bills based upon the singles and couples attending. Upon returning to take payment we were informed that an 18% gratuity was already included. I thought this odd. After everyone paid, one of our party mentioned there was a disclaimer at the bottom of the menu about a gratuity being added. I looked at a menu upon leaving and it said an 18% gratuity would be added for parties of 10 or more. A very disappointing outing, which could have easily been made much better had the server simply paid attention and communicate. Unfortunately, I will never return...
Read moreATTENTION: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!! Went on Saturday with my husband to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Never were we so disappointed before! We know this place since 2015 and we used to go there for different occasions at least few times a year. Since the pandemic started we went once before yesterday visit and both the food and the service were terrible. Bison burger meat was awful and impossible to chew. We were waiting for our dessert 30 minutes after we got the tea. The server was rude and in a rush, so we removed this place from a list of our favorite restaurants in Edmonton. I don't know why we decided to give this place another try and booked a table for our special occasion on Saturday evening. Our visit only confirmed that this place should be avoided in a future! WE WILL NEVER RETURN To this terrible, so called "restaurant"!! We had to wait for our drinks for 40 minutes. The waitress just didn't have time for us, because she had between 10 and 15 table to serve. The other side of a restaurant was served by three male waitresses and they had time to chat with each other and walk slowly. Our waitress was running like crazy to keep up with her tables. No manager came to us to address our concern and to offer an alternative! Our special evening unfortunately was ruined, we left with a heavy feeling that nobody cares about clients here! NOBODY!! The food in the past two years of pandemic changed so much, unfortunately, so we cannot even call it a restaurant anymore! IF YOU WANT TO TRY A FAST FOOD AND PAY $$$ FOR IT, THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE TO VISIT! BUT if you are a person, who likes good food, please avoid this place at all costs! This business doesn't care about its clientele nor about their stuff. They don't have enough waitresses for busy times and FEMALE STUFF ARE DISCRIMINATED AT HOMEFIRE GRILL!! Moreover, my daughter liked a cookie with ice cream dessert and always was asking us to bring her one, when we went to this place without her. This time the cookie was just impossible to eat and she was very disappointed! The cookie looked like it was not even cooked, just a cookie dough on a plate. WE ARE DONE WITH THIS PLACE! AND WE RECOMMEND YOU...
Read moreWhat an AMAZING place! Staying in Edmonton for a few days and saw this restaurant near our hotel and popped in for a late dinner. Kitchen was close to closing but they sat us and served us as if it was prime dinner rush. Our server, Danny was a joy! He has a casual demeanor that makes you feel instantly welcome and really knows the menu well, providing recommendations and advice on sides etc. The food was next level awesome! The NY steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned nicely. My son had the Bison stew and absolutely loved it!! Mashed potatoes and grilled veg were fantastic! Beer was cold, food was great, atmosphere was chill and homey, service was excellent. 100% top notch. We were here on Tuesday night, and couldn't stop talking about it, so came back for a late lunch on Thursday. Had the pleasure of having Danny serve us again and he remembered us, and remembered what we drank! Now THAT'S impressive!! This time I tried the poutine and all I can say is WOW! Regular poutine is ruined for me now as this is the best I ever had! Topped with ground elk, and the gravy is made with elk/bison bone stock. Never imagined poutine could be this good! We also ordered the Indian summer salad and carnivore pizza. Both were excellent! Pizza first came out a little under-done, but Danny took it back to the kitchen and had it fixed for us fast and with a smile!
Wish we lived here in Edmonton so we could eat here...
