Pros: Location is fantastic. View from the balcony is really nice. Nice big showers. Cool decor. Cons: $400 per night: Rooms are tiny. Walls are thin; we could hear every conversation, argument, late night coughing, laughing, phone calls. The screen to balcony was always falling off its tracks and difficult to open. Lots of holes in the screen, mosquitoes were coming into the unit. The bathroom sink was a nice style but not functional for holding toiletries. The soap tray in the shower was loose, tilted and bars of soap was always sliding off and hitting the floor. There is no one at the front desk 6pm-10am. No restaurant, no gym. The last few points are small, but when we paid $400 a night, for three nights, I've experienced far better service and amenities for a much lower cost. There was not great value for the money. Massive personal letdown: Dayna "The Manager". Not flexible, not helpful or understanding / compassionate towards guest situations. Every point of communication with her felt like an inconvenience FOR HER. During our travels, I unfortunately picked up Covid. We had to cancel the remainder of our trip, visiting friends in another town. The night before we were suppose to leave, my partner went to the font desk to ask if we could extend our stay for another 2 nights. Dayna was at the front desk and told my partner "not to worry, we'll find a place for you tomorrow in the morning. The king accessible is available. Come back at 10am". Not feeling 100% secure in that, we messaged the overnight text system asking if there is availability for 1 night as we now had to rearrange our ferry booking. The next morning my partner went to the front desk at 10am. Dayna was late 8mins and instead of saying "my apologies, give me a few minutes to start up the computer, I'll be happy to help you out" ($400/night service), she made an excuse that "she travels from Cox Beach" and to "come back at 10:30 because the computers needs to start up". When my partner returned and asked to book for 1 additional night, the response was "we can't do one night bookings, has to be a minimum two nights, like I told you last night". This was not communicated as such the previous night and there was no response on the texting system to confirm they wouldn't do 1 night. We could have made other arrangements that evening, instead of being told at 10:30am with check out at 11am and scrambling to make new arrangements. We felt the situation could have been handled much more positively seeing as we had already stayed 3 nights. We had asked for the supervisor Cody to call us, and never received a call. We had hoped for better customer service for the...
Read moreWe stayed at Duffin Cove, Room 308, for 3 nights at the beginning of August for our anniversary. If 4.5 stars was an option, that's what we would have given. If we make it back to Tofino, we would stay here in a heartbeat, if any friends or family were to go to Tofino, we would highly recommend!
The customer service is exceptional. They are on island time with the front desk, which a few have pointed out as a negative, but we found it refreshing. Delicious Nespresso coffee (with refills at the front desk) were provided; we absolutely loved sipping coffee on our patio in the AM and Tofino Lagers in the PM. The beds were comfy, washrooms were large, water pressure was exceptional, patio as mentioned was an awesome space, and the view was divine!!!
We parked in the lot the first day we got there and pretty much walked everywhere for the duration of our stay (with a few exceptions). Everything you need is in walking distance; restaurants, rhino coffee, grocery store, lcbo, whale watching, tofino licks (so good!).. it was really neat being right on the water and being able to walk down in the early morning for low tide. We saw so many starfish!
The reason for the -.5 star -- We lucked out with our stay with no bugs and cooler temperatures. However, there are no screens on the door, and no AC, so if bugs or heat were in full swing, it could be a different experience. There was some echoing, however, the beauty of this place is that you are in a cove, so a bit of echoing is to be expected, hopefully you just have respectful neighbors.
Anyways, truly a little piece of heaven and one of the highlights of our trip! Thank you, and we truly look forward to staying with you again! a couple of...
Read moreDuffin Cove: So happy to get to write this review as our stay was amazing!!! We would and will be staying at Duffin Cove again. This place is brand new and was designed well. The room is very modern and well thought out. Very comfortable king bed and from it you have a spectacular view of the ocean. My favourite part is the view from the shower as it has a floor to ceiling window with glass frosting in all the ‘needed’ places to give you privacy. I want to wake up every morning and shower looking out at that view with that amazing shower head. We couldn’t be happier with our first three nights of our Honeymoon. The staff who run the hotel also live in their separate unit on the back of the property and they are extremely helpful. Our friend from Vancuver who wanted to do something nice for us on our honeymoon called and asked if she could order us a bottle of Champagne. (I think she assumed this hotel was like a Van hotel and would stock that). The staff walked to the liquor store bought a bottle of bubbly and put it on ice for us and delivered it when we got back to our room. They definitely went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Communication with the hotel staff is done through texting and was smooth and easy. Hotel is also located at a perfect spot in town basically on Main Street and within 25 meters a bakery, Coffee and smoothie shop across the road from the hotel. Walking distance to all restaurants in town. This place is fantastic and you won’t regret...
