Very disappointing experience. We came here twice and unfortunately two days in a row witnessed staff being rude to a couple who clearly didn’t speak very good English and a second time to ourselves when we elected to eat our food on the patio in takeout containers. The reason we asked for takeout vs plates (as we had on the first day) is the portion is large and we knew we wouldn’t finish the whole plate before needing it packed up so in effort to conserve some dishes as well as not interrupt the busy staff to ask for a box, we got it packed up from the get go. Apparently this is an issue as the staff member Lee was extremely vocal about us eating takeout at the table (we paid the same money with a generous tip so I’m unsure why it matters where we eat, especially given that we know we need the takeout container in the end?)…he very loudly and rudely made it known that he didn’t want us eating from takeout. This is the same man who the day before was so rude to the tourist who struggled to understand English. We explained our reasoning to him for ordering in boxes and he was again, super rude to our faces for legitimately no reason. To be honest, it was a little shocking how rude he was over something so simple. We asked for the managers number who didn’t as much as say I’m sorry for your experience once but instead, highlighted the issue that they wanted to reduce garbage waste. Maybe the solution is I bring my own Tupperware because as we stated many times, I’m not able to finish a whole portion…A sincere apology for the way Lee spoke to us would have been appreciated. A gave this 2 stars simply because the bread was good, the eggs and the staff however, were not and we will not be returning or recommending. Really awful to see how they treat tourists, especially non-English...
Read moreJust ordered breakfast and had the pleasure of Lee the "manager" talking bad about my wife and I right in front of us, and how he needs to figure out a way to stop take out orders eating here. Sometimes people change their minds, Shelter had ZERO problem letting us eat takeout on patio when we changed our minds, but we were doing takeout to save dishes here. We ordered breakfast but said we would have leftovers so wanted it in to go to save them dishes. He proceeded to talk badly about us and how to stop people like us directly while we were standing at the counter making us feel exceptional uncomfortable.
I returned my food and will never ever be back. He was grumpy rude and patronizing last time we were here as well to some French customers. Really bad employee behavior espechially for management. You'd think for a shop that relies on tourism you'd be a bit more accommodating to people spending 40$ on breakfast.
Truly the worst end to an amazing holiday and I'm very disappointed to have been talked to this way. Left my number for the owner to call me, and was instantly...
Read moreRustic cafe and bakery. I really liked the builing: looks like a house from outside, two levels with a second floor patio, very colourful. The barista that took my order was friendly enough. I tried a sugar-free raspberry peach muffin and a chai latte. I really liked the muffin - it was dense but soft and very moist. Lots of juicy fruit. I will say that if "sugar-free muffin" is something that sounds appealing to you, you will probably like this, but if not, it's probably not for you because the texture was quite different from a regular muffin. But I liked the wholesome flavour. The chai latte was just the standard, but made well, with a very generous dusting of cinnamon. I got there shortly after they opened and just had to wait in a short line with my drink ready fairly quickly, but they were much busier by the time I was leaving. I think they take card payments now. I paid with cash, but I didn't see any cash only signs and I saw what I think was a card machine at...
