Not sure that all reviewers have the right Hostal Torres del Paine. There was no bar at this one. This is in Punta Arenas in Calle Chiloé. Carmen is lovely and went out of her way after I lost my camera at a museo by making enquiries at the local radio station. She doesn't speak much english and it doesn't seem to matter if you don't speak much spanish! She just keeps talking. haha. Not my interpretation of a hostal, more like a home stay. I had a comfy bed and good pillows. I asked to cook and was told to clean up after myself ( which is a given anyway ). There weren't many people here. Breakfast is thin bread rolls with cheese and ham slices. When I told Carmen no jamon, she got me turkey slices for one morning and made me scrambled egg for another. Yogurt and tea. Upstairs there is a sitting room of sorts and only 2 bathrooms for a lot of people. I stayed here before going to Ushuaia (Argentina) and again on my way back to Santiago. Great welcome from Carmen second time round. Close to city...
Read moreIt was an horrible experience, as the owner turned out to be not so nice as she presents herself. She tried to rip us off with a different price than booked with booking and even wanted us to pay 19 percent more of the taxes which foreigners are normally exempted. We managed with a horrible word fight not to have to pay the 19 percent taxes but still had to pay her price. She insulted us in spanish thinking I wouldn't understand. It is sad that such people manage to ruin in some way the end of your vacation. Two other negative points to mention were the horrible smell at the entrance as well as in the room, in which we were even not allowed to open the window. It was also the first hostel, in which it was forbidden for tourist to prepare their food. The rest of Chile and Patagonia as well as their people were amazing, but this episode was a...
Read moreWe spent four nights in this amazing setting. Our travel agent had booked us on the 'inclusive' package which included airport transfers, full board, wine, an open bar and excursions.||Be warned that the hotel is 5 hours by road from Punta Arenas airport. ||Excellent accommodation, friendly helpful staff, a great location, excellent food and wine and wonderful excursions are how I summarise the visit.||The Full Day Paine excursion gives an excellent overview. We then selected four half day follow ups.||Don't expect tv anywhere . The satellite Internet connection works from public areas but is slow.||My only suggestion to the resort is to offer daily specials in the...
