We would not return for the treatment we received but I will be fair and give it 2 stars for decor and excellent cheese cake. We were told this was the best coffe place in Punta Arenas and as coffee aficionados we headed there. First the order was misunderstood and we got two different coffees, despite ordering only one, but I can forgive that since the discussion was in English. The coffe was gorgeous to look at with nice designs. The problem became clear immediately upon the first (and last) sip. The coffee was very sour and we immediately thought it must be surely a lower quality Robusta. (Which works havoc on our stomachs). I went to the counter to ask the barista and staff and the manager what coffee they use. They said this week they used Robusta from Brasil. They brought two different packages of beans but none was marked. I informed them that the coffee was too acidic for consumption and bad for stomachs. I expressed my surprise that a coffee shop of their renown would use cheap robusta beans. I asked the server to retrieve the coffee from our table.
When we went to pay they wanted to charge us for the coffee. We said we were only going to pay for the cake but not the coffee which was undrinkable. The manager was extremely rude. I won’t repeat his unacceptable berating statements. The server was very apologetic and took our money for the cake. In a month of travel throughout Chile we have never experienced such treatment. I have noticed other reviewers were complaining about the treatment in this coffee shop, so it seems we were not the only costumers...
Read moreCoffee is good but I thought their no-laptops allowed strict policy was a bit too much. Especially for people traveling alone the fact you can go to a coffee shop and plan your trip with your laptop without feeling like a criminal would be appreciated. I can understand they set a policy of people with laptops only can stay one hour to avoid people using a coffee shop like an office, or people with laptops have to spend X amount of money each hour in food/drinks, but tell customers (like they did to me) they have to leave if they open a laptop even for 10 minutes is a bit too much and for me kills the vibe of a place who doesn’t even try to find a middle of the road option, just doesn’t speak well of the owners, probably in their heads they think they are making a point (I wonder which one), probably don’t realize a person scrolling Instagram with their phone can stay in their coffee place more time than someone with a laptop. If you have a good coffee, I would hope a business owner wants to share it with all customers equally, setting the necessary limits or rules to control people that may want to use the coffee like an office. But it is very weird someone tries to control to that extent what someone can or cannot do inside an establishment, even though of course is perfectly...
Read moreSpent a few days in Punta Arenas and visited Wake Up almost every day. Great coffee, made with the utmost care! Delicious food (had eggs Benedict, vegetarian omelette, mexandwich, slices of cakes, pancakes, huevos rancheros...basically had the whole menu and loved it). Cool music, interesting books to peruse, nice airy atmosphere.
On top of the awesome selection of food and drinks, the customer service was beyond amazing. We we’re looking to buy a pour over for coffee while camping and Rodrigo went out of his way to find one for us and bring it to the shop the next day. Another day, we had an issue returning some gear to a closed shop nearby and Dietmar went above and beyond to help us. He personally contacted the shop owner and coordinated a meet up so we could return our gear and get our deposit back.
Truly a special cafe. They’re doing something different and it’s working. Thank...
