This hostal has an incredible owner, Francisco. He will go above and beyond to make sure your stay is memorable. When we arrived to the front door, no one answered for a moment, so a neighbor across the street went and knocked on the door of a house nearby. Francisco's son then came out right away with keys and let us into the hostal and helped us settle into our room. We were floored by the kindness of the neighbor to go out of his way and for Francisco's son to drop what he was doing for us. As it turned out, Francisco was expecting two North American guests that day who didn't speak a word of Spanish. They were having trouble navigating their way from the airport, so he PERSONALLY went to the airport to find them and bring them back to the hostal. You can't get that just anywhere.||||Francisco also invited us to watch a Chile-Brasil futbol match with his family in the common area one of the nights we were there, and each morning he would hang out and chat with us over breakfast. Staying at this hostal really added to our experience in Valparaiso, which is amazing in and of itself, but the hospitality we were shown brought it to another level and gave us great memories that we will carry with us for years to come.||||The room we stayed in was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed and nice decor. It had plenty of hot water for both of us to shower and was quiet in the evening for a good night's sleep.||||Without a doubt, we would stay at this hostal again if we return to Valparaiso one day. I don't think we could go back and consciously stay somewhere else knowing how well we were...
Read moreTwo friends and I took a day trip from Santiago to Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. So charmed were we that it turned into a spontaneous overnighter. Walking up the street from the gazebo at the top of the funicular, we randomly encountered Hostal Odeon and it's gracious and charismatic proprietor, Francisco. Instantly attentive and happy to offer suggestions, Francisco is a fantastic help and lots of fun, too! He actually took us to a phone booth shop to help us make arrangements for our things back in Santiago! (not suggesting that he'll be your personal tour guide, it was mid week and slow off-season). ||The rooms are clean and spartan with high ceilings and character. The bathroom was on the verge of being renovated I believe. The dining room is warm and inviting and had a life of it's own. After a delicious breakfast Francisco even serenaded the guests with some excellent classical guitar playing!||If you're looking for a good price and a great, welcoming host, this is the...
Read moreWhen we met Francisco, the owner of the hostel, we knew we would have a lovely stay. The hostel is quite small, only 5-6 rooms, but very well located, on top of a hill where you have the best view over the port. Our room was perfect! Very clean and with an amazing view. A bit small but with a private bathroom. What more do you want? One evening, Francisco put up a show for us , he sang with his band while we drank Pisco Sour and wine and beer, everything offered by him. We then sang karaoke for another 3 hours and had alot of fun. We reccommend this...
