Muelle Prat — Attraction in Valparaíso

A piece of history, still untouched! A totally must do! Learn a bit about Chilean history and one of it's most important heroes. On the port you can go around the bay in one of the of the passenger boats and take amazing pics of the bay and the cargo ship. Several souvenir shops with a variety of items for you to take to family and friends. "El bote Salvavidas" great restaurant with a great variety of Chilean and International dishes at water's edge with a truly amazing view of the port. On same aerea you can also find the newest addition to this picturesque site "Valparaiso Aquarium" although small still gives a good idea of the fish and shellfish of Valparaiso and Chilean ocean habitat. Very affordable entrance fee and each small group with their own Aquarium tourguide ( with heavy Venezuelan accent , obvious reflection of the changes of times and how diverse Chile has become regarding...

El Muelle Prat es uno de los lugares más auténticos para conectar con el Valparaíso real. Antiguamente, todos los viajeros llegaban por mar, por lo que este muelle era el punto de encuentro original de la ciudad. Hoy sigue siendo un espacio vivo, donde se cruza lo histórico con lo cotidiano.

Como Patatour, siempre lo recomendamos y es uno de nuestros puntos de encuentro. Subirse a una lancha desde acá es una forma simple y memorable de ver Valparaíso y sus cerros desde el mar, recorrer la bahía, entender su geografía y observar de cerca el funcionamiento del puerto. El paseo en lancha cuesta actualmente $5.000 (solo en efectivo) y dura unos 30 minutos.

🟠 Consejos prácticos de local: • Las horas punta (13:00–15:30 hrs.) son ideales, ya que las lanchas se llenan más rápido y salen con más frecuencia. Los lancheros son personas muy amables aunque al principio puedan parecer algo intimidantes • Lleva efectivo, ideal billetes pequeños. • Hay baños públicos y un patio de comidas justo al lado, en Estación Puerto. También hay baños públicos en el mismo muelle. • Si llegas en auto, hay estacionamiento pagado en estación Puerto y estacionamiento subterráneo pagado en la Plaza Sotomayor. • Como en cualquier ciudad turística, mantén tus objetos personales a la vista y evita dejar cosas sueltas al caminar, para tener una experiencia segura

Este es un puerto multipropósito: conviven operaciones comerciales, militares (Primera Zona Naval) y turísticas (cruceros y paseos en lancha). Muchos porteños vienen a este lugar simplemente a mirar el mar y contemplar la actividad portuaria, que sigue siendo parte del alma de Valparaíso.

Un lugar imprescindible para empezar a entender esta ciudad que nunca ha dejado de mirar...

It was ok. We ended a Viking cruise there and the ship spent one overnight at the port. The pier for cruise ships is far and requires a shuttle bus. A Princess cruise was embarking that day and the process was crowded and somewhat disorganized. There was a huge crowd at the one food operation, apparently of passengers waiting to board the Princess ship. Getting off was fine and plenty of room to collect luggage...
