Stayed at the Hang Fung hostel for 3 nights. Checked in at 4 am on first night – our plane was delayed 9 hours. A friend that we met on the plane called the hostel for us when we arrived in Hong Kong, and let them know we were on the way (they didn’t speak English, so it was good we had his help). We paid when we arrived – didn’t want Mastercard (which it says they accept on Booking.com), so payed in cash (lucky we had cash). Hotel location was very good – stairway down to Jordan MRT station right outside front door of hotel. Hotel is on 14th floor of building. Close to night market and basically right beside main Nathan Avenue that runs through Kowloon. We caught airport bus A21 on Nathan a couple blocks down (across from McDonald’s), and airport bus A22 is also nearby and another option. Airport buses are about ½ cost and less hastle than the Express Train (once you get off at Kowloon or Hong Kong, you have to take other shuttles or buses to get to your hotel). ||Small frosted window so no noise to speak of….Key card access to front door and to room. Room was VERY small, which is typical for a cheap room in Hong Kong. Bed was comfortable. Chinese TV stations mainly, but did get some English news here and there. Wifi was fine.||Bathroom also small….no separate shower. Shower head on wall between sink and toilet and you basically shut door and stood there and turned shower on….I was able to make it work (but at least you know what you’re in for). Slippers provided. ||Basic small very, very clean room, but good location. They keep hallways and rooms immaculate. ||See pictures for room and bathroom. We’d consider staying here again if in Kowloon (cheap, quiet, great location...
Read moreThis is a great example of the saying ‘you get what you pay for’ and thats not necessarily a bad thing.||PROS|- Location - It is centrally located in Kowloon within walking distance of most of the major attraction such as temple street. The MTR is located right outside the door (Jordon Station), allowing easy access to pretty much anywhere in Hong Kong. The airport bus (Bus 21 or bus 22 depending which way yo are going) can drop you off not too far away on Nathan Road and you can walk here.|- Wifi worked well and is free|- Room despite being small was immaculately clean|- Soundproofing on the windows seemed to work well as I didn’t hear any of the street noise from down below (it is located on the 14th floor).| - Staff there were quite friendly. For memory it was just one lady who didn’t really speak much english and I suspect tried to time her attendance at the hostel with when she expected guests to arrive/depart. |- Value - price point was much lower than competitors||CONS| - Room was quite small as is often the case with accomodation in Hong Kong. | - Bathroom is also quite small with a very odd configuration that required the hotel water to be turned on via a switch approximately 10 minutes before one would shower in order to allow the water enough time to heat up. The shower is also simply a flexible hose over the toilet.||Overall we didnt mind stay here. However, it definitively has its drawbacks which are well accommodated for in the price point. I think if you are budget conscious and planning on spending most of your time outside of the hotel this could be a...
Read moreLocation is awesome. It is in the heart of Kowloon, for those who really want the "real asian experience". Walking distance to the harbour, just go down the elevator and on the street you will find delicious local bakeries, restaurants with authentic food and even starbucks. The metro station could not be closer. Very good cleanliness of the room despite the fact how small the room is (it must be very hard to clean such a small room properly). Good ventilation of the bathroom. And the A/C could be switched off completely. Staff were very welcoming, even if with limited english, managed to explain everything about the room. It was very surprising to get toothbrushes, slippers and individually packed soaps in a hostel :) You can pay by card. That's it for the positive experience, now a few bad things: The room was literally claustrophobic. Even the staff appologized for the room being very small. You could either open the door of the room, or the bathroom door, forget about unpacking. However, it is OK for one or two nights. Not all the staff members spoke english. We could definitely use more space, like a couple of extra shelves would help a lot. Overall impression - I would recommend this place for one night stay, especially due to...
