My family and I have been staying at Jetvan whenever we go to HK because of its great location - right in the middle of busy but fashionable Causeway Bay. Food stalls, boutiques, fashion walk - all within your reach from the budget hostel literally! It's just 5mins walk to MTR station, around 8 mins walk to Sogo and Wellcome supermarket is just across the street. Since it is just a budget hostel, don't expect too much about the room. I inquired and reserved in email through Paypal and got a nice rate from the owner because I booked 1 month advance. Lillian, the cheerful Pinay housekeeper was very helpful. She accommodated us to our double bed room and cleaned our room everyday. Our room is pretty average and very small. I got a double bed for my mom and I during our October trip. Bathroom is very small too - you can literally sit on the toilet bowl while taking a shower (talk about multitasking! lol). Add a small cabinet, cable TV and airconditioning and that just sums up the room. Hot and cold shower and wifi is available within the room - just ask Lillian for the password. They have common rooms where you can use their appliances - microwave to reheat your food, refrigerator to keep your drinks, water dispenser to refill your water bottles. The hostel building is equipped with automatic doors with pass codes that will be provided to you by Lillian along with your room key. Getting to Jetvan can be done in 3 ways - by MTR (get off in Causeway Bay station), by bus (not sure what number) or by airport shuttle (My mom and I availed the 3-day tourist MTR pass that comes with free ride in airport shuttle that goes around major hotels in the area. We got off in Parklane Hotel and walked 8 mins to Jetvan.) Best value for money budget hostel there is because of its location. I always had a great time in HK trips because of Jetvan. Will recommend to all backpackers and those travelling in a budget and doesn't mind small rooms with no hotel amenities. Who needs them anyway when you can go sightseeing, eat and shop til you drop...
Read moreWe were a group of three. I asked for information and our contact person responded promptly. She gave us adequate directions to reach the place and check in. The entry to our rooms was through another gate. The room is a few minutes from Victoria Park and Causeway Bay MTR metro station - so location was good.||||Our room was within a unit on the first floor. It was as described (it is a guest house) and as per the photos - two beds placed perpendicular to each other. The beds are probably just right for someone about 5'9'' and come with a pillow and blanket. The pillow and bed were a bit hard for our liking. A safety locker is not inside the room, but we did not ask for one either (so we would not know if there was one elsewhere). There is a water cooler with hot/cold water that is shared by 2-3 other similar rooms within this unit. The wifi was sometimes slow, but it is not a major issue.||||The washroom is small but I presume this is due to Hong Kong space shortages. It came with functioning hot/cold water shower. You might want to manage your own soap, etc. Both the washroom and the room were cleaned. While we liked the accessibility and being able to return to a clean room, during our time, the window air conditioner in the room was noisier than most normal ones are. We informed the manager, and she told us that she would get it looked into later.||||Checking out was a breeze too. Overall, we liked the location, cleanliness and...
Read moreFirst of, I am a very long time repeat customer of this hostel, staying at this place about 6-8x/year. Under the old management, it was done right. The very same staffs were very courteous, and they were honest bunch. The location is excellent too.||In the past year or so, things went south very quickly. They increased rate 3 times, and the senior staff developed a bad attitude. They even tried to charge for power plug adaptor at 3x the typical price just down the street. ||During my current trip, the boss gave me one rate during reservation, when checked in the staff wrote the same rate in the book, but then things went horribly wrong. When I tried to pay for the room, the senior staff said that this kind of rate is no longer valid per the boss' instruction. I tried to clear things up with her, but the talk was simply unpleasant. It was more of the "find some other place" treatment. ||I tried contacting the boss without success. ||The straw that broke the camel's back was that later I found out that the same staff gave the rate her boss gave to me to the other guests!||So, beware of this establishment until they get their act...
