This is my second stay with M1 Hotel, I first stayed in 2017 similarly for four nights. My experience with M1 Hotel then was poor, nothing has changed two years on; it could be worse. ||Check-in:|Relatively quick process but do I really have to queue along the tiny and narrow “lobby”? Check-in/front desk staff’s attitude were generally cold, they did not offer any greeting and pleasantries whatsoever. ||Note that a deposit of HKD1,000 applies per room.||Rooms:|Small, even by the standards of Hong Kong. The room had thin walls, soundproofing was inexistent. |The amenities provided were few and basic. The room was fairly clean, or it seemed so at least, fixtures and equipment were poorly maintained.|There was very little space for my luggage, even lesser space for moving around. Getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom can be an obstacle course in itself. |Wall sockets are ample and scattered, though not necessarily in working condition. Light switches are located by the door and cannot be accessed from the bed.|No dressing table, work table or wardrobe of sorts.||Location:|Possibly the only good thing about this hotel. The hotel is sandwiched between two MTR exits. The exit with lift access can be reached via a fully sheltered route from the hotel entrance. Quality F&B options are located in close proximity. The popular tourist areas of Mongkok, Ladies Street and Temple Street are within a 15-20 minute walking distance.||It is by no means a lousy hotel - the stay was really bearable and some would label me “fortunate”. It’s just that I’ve had much better experiences elsewhere for a similar price paid. Other hotels in the vicinity may give you a better bang...
Read moreM1 Hotel has a great location—strategically situated at Exit C of Yau Ma Tei station, just a 3–5 minute walk to the MTR. It’s also near plenty of food spots like Red Tea Cafe and the night market.
Unfortunately, our experience with the service was quite disappointing. I'm not sure if it's due to Hong Kong's new Eco-Responsibility Law (which means no free disposable toiletries or bottled water in rooms), but the service fell far below expectations:
No daily housekeeping – You can only request cleaning on the 4th day of your stay. The one time we did ask for it, WE RETURN AT 9PM TO FIND THE ROOM DOOR LEFT UNLOCKED AFTER CLEANING,which made us extremely concerned about the safety of our belongings.
No basic toiletries or towel replacement unless specifically requested.
Unhelpful reception staff – Some were dismissive and had limited English, making communication frustrating.
Hygiene issues – We noticed SMALL RAT BITE MARKS on the paper bag of souvenirs and snacks we had stored in the room, which was extremely concerning and unhygenic!
Uncomfortable surroundings – There is a funeral parlor directly below the hotel, which made walking around at night unsettling.
Overall, the location is a plus, but the lack of basic service, hygiene concerns, and unfriendly staff really took away from what could have been a decent stay.
We visited during Golden Week, which might explain the poor service, as the hotel was packed and fully booked. However, that’s no excuse for the lack of proper hospitality. Even if it's a busy season, guests still deserve quality service—especially when the prices are nearly on par with a 2- to...

I’m honestly shocked that this place is still in business. First of all, the rooms are unbelievably small. I know space in Hong Kong is limited, but come on—this felt more like a cramped storage unit than a hotel room. And the price? OUTRAGEOUS for what you get. I’d expect much better even in an expensive city like Hong Kong.
Now, onto the service—or should I say the complete LACK of it. The staff is not just unprofessional, they’re downright rude. They couldn’t care less about their guests and act like you’re bothering them just by asking for help. Seriously, I’ve never encountered such terrible service in my life.
The room itself? A disaster. Dirty, dingy, and in desperate need of repair. The furniture was falling apart, the walls were stained, and the whole place felt like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. It was so gloomy and uninviting, I dreaded going back to the room every day.
And let’s talk about amenities—or the lack thereof. No basic toiletries provided. NO toothbrush, no toothpaste, no shampoo, NOTHING. You have to go out and buy everything yourself. Oh, and did I mention there’s no daily housekeeping? Yeah, you get to enjoy your filth for the entire stay. Absolutely disgusting.
This hotel is a complete scam, and I can’t stress enough—do NOT waste your money on this dump. I wouldn’t stay here again if they paid me. Stay away from M1 Hotel if you value your time, money, and...
