I always fancy a good rice-noodle rolls (cheung fan) in HK. Everytime when I walked pass Tung Tat after exiting from the A2 exit at the MTR station at Mong Kok, I would always see a long queue of people lining up to buy the rice noodle rolls and fish balls at this store. Finally, I managed to give it a go! The rice noodle rolls were nice, but it's not as nice as what I remembered. They were a bit too soft and I would expect the cheung fan should be a little bit slight-chewy. The fishballs were lovely & bouncy & I finally understood why they were so popular! Ordered two rice rolls (粢飯) and two skewers of fish siu mai as a takeaway for breakfast. Reasonable price. Cash only.
The rice rolls were quite big in size and the filling was ample (meat floss, preserved vegetables, and a fried dough stick). They were tasty but we thought the rice could have been softer / stickier.
The fish siu mai were excellent. They tasted freshly made and the texture had a bit of QQ. The sauce that went with it was delicious.
