Hospederia Colonial — Hotel in Boyacá

My husband and I just returned from Villa De Leyva and we spent our first night at Hospederia Colonial. We arrived on a Tuesday--- after a 3 day weekend --- and just showed up and started to search for a room. We were able to bargain down the price of the double room because during the week, the town is empty. The room was small but adequate. What really sold us though was the large bathroom with separate shower and large jacuzzi tub. We looked forward to a nice hot bath as hot water seems to be in limited supply in Colombia. We were so disappointed when we turned on the water and there was NO hot water at all. The woman running the place said that maybe tomorrow there will be hot water. Why put in a nice, big, tub if you are not going to provide hot water to fill it with? We felt as we had be duped with the jacuzzi because they never intended to turn on the hot water. The next morning there still was no hot water. The owner just did not want to light up the hot water heater because there it was in the corner--- unlit. Needless to say, we left after that and found another place to stay. There are many places like this in Leyva and there's no need...

This hospedaje is located less than a block form the central plaza, close to everything of interest in Villa de Leyva. The staff were mostly helpful and friendly. Our room was smallish but adequate. The bathroom had a luke warm electric shower of the kind you are afraid will electrocute you at any minute, but que suerte, still here! There was no window or extractor fan in the bathroom so smells wafted into the room, you get the picture. ||||One concern was that I asked them to clean the room and when we return the door was left ajar with the key in it. I know V de L is a tranquil town but I prefer my valubles to be more secure. Another day I made the point that I didn't not want our door left open with the key in it. Friendly staff, I found the place very close to the main square, same distance of many other hotels with similar conditions but more expensive.
