We have been to Villa de Leyva for a bank holiday weekend in Colombia, which was actually a bad decision on our end (unrelated recommendation at this point: try to avoid weekends and local bank holidays, unless you like crowded places - if you do, book early!). Anyway, we ended up spending 2 nights at this hotel, which is an annex to a bigger (main) hotel facility a bit further up the street. That being said - service staff was excellent, very kind and helpful. Check-in straightforward. This annex has only a few rooms, which makes it a very quiet experience, too. Breakfast was not included to our room rate, which in itself was ok for Villa de Leyva, but rather on the pricey side for Colombia (by comparision, we stayed in much nicer and authentic places for about the same rate in Salento-area). That being said, it's a solid and nice hotel, and our room was great (big room, with a comfortable double bed, and a nice big bathroom with natural light coming from the ceiling). Very close to the central square, but yet far enough to escape the crowds....
Read moreWe stayed for 4 nights over Christmas. Overall a nice friendly hotel in a good location a few mins walk from the main square. Rooms are large and have some character, with nice high ceilings. Breakfast was simple but very good. Fresh fruit followed by eggs and arepas, with plenty of coffee. Staff were excellent.|Only 2 problems. The safe in both rooms wasn't open and both times they took a very long time to open it. This should be checked so it is open before every visit. And second problem is that this lovely hotel is damaged by signs everywhere! It was crazy. I counted 7 signs in our room. And even more by the restaurant doors. Please please get rid of them all. Just give us a sheet of instructions when we check in if you must. But I really don't need a huge sign in my bathroom showing me how to wash my hands or telling me to do it every 4 hours! Apart from that very good. But the signs take away from the...
Read moreThe hotel is conveniently located 2 blocks away from the main plaza. We got a front facing room which conserved some charm from antique buildings with a closed balcony and vaulted ceiling. The room was very nice sized, the bathroom had both a shower and a tub and lots of natural light. Everything was very clean, although I could do without the shaggy rugs I feel are not as sanitary. The hotel is very spacious and well maintained and has an indoor pool and restaurant. Check-in was quick.||||Not so positive things to consider:||-It is a bit noisy and you can hear everything happening in the inner courtyard.||-Complimentary bottle of water would have been nice specially since there is a "do not drink water from the faucet" sign.||-While the bed was pretty decent, pillows were TERRIBLE, I felt I was sleeping on a rock and I saw people checking-out with their own pillows, which makes me think it was not...
