I really want to like Chuska. I don't mind their proces but then I expect more. This is an attractive and relaxing restaurant with excellent and attentive service. However, I was here for the meal. The sauce covering the meat was quite tasty, however the meat itself was not seasoned, and it was not soft. If I want tougher meat with only flavor of an exterior sauce I can pay half the price, and I should have. I did like the Coconut fried rice, as well as the dressing on the salad (again, sauces appear to be their specialty). As for the wine, I ordered the house red as it was the only option offering a glass whereas I am by myself on this trip. The wine was not actually bad, but I was told that it was a Cabernet Sauvignon, which should have pared well with the lomo. But instead of a room temperatura Cab with a bite to bring out the flavor of the meat, I drank what tasted like a sweet Malbec or a Pinot Noir, which was served cold, and completely failed to enhance the flavor of the lomo. My experience in Latin American countries, with cold red wines, is my suspicion tjat they are served cold to hide the poor flavors, which don't present themselves until after the wine warms up. Most people won't notice, since usually by the time the wine has warmed enough to present their flavors the alcohol helps to lower the customer's ability to notice. I am grateful that at least as this sweet "Cab" warmed up, it still...
Read moreWent here due to the rave reviews but was left disappointed 😔. The service was definitely perfect, in fact, the server went the extra mile and that was something that made the experience very promising.
So we began off with a starter, it was called Yuca something and sounded delicious but unfortunately it was very bland, no real taste at all... it needed 🧂 badly.
After that we had the T-bone steak 🥩 and bbq pork dish. The T-bone was ordered medium rare but came out medium, it seems like they don't really do medium-rare (I had asked before ordering and they go blue then medium) so it was alright. The main issue I had was that the so called mango chimichurri was actually more of a mango pico de gallo. Chichichurri def does not have tomatoes in it.. 😞 and it seemed to be missing quite a bunch of key ingredients to a real chimichurri (vinegar, parsley, lemon..).
The pork was pretty good and probably the only good plate but still, nothing to brag about.
We also ordered a pitcher of Sangria which was decent. We both thought it was missing more of a "punch" to it, seemed a bit watery (maybe due to the amount of ice that melted during preparation).
Prices were pretty good as well, not really cheap but not expensive either.
So in the end, we both thought it was an ok restaurant with excellent service but definitely not what the overall...
Read moreBooked a table for 4 on 1st Jan during pur stay in Villa de Leyva. It was easy to book, simply reach out to their WhatsApp contact number. I had to put down COP$100,000 to reserve our spot, it went down as credit to our final bill. No problems there.
Very welcoming staff, our table was ready for us on time. First interaction with our waiter was outstanding, he knew very well the menu. Weird as it may sound, this is not very common in Colombia. Enough options to choose from. Starting with some beers and fruit juices, we then shared Yucca croquettes, longaniza and the Brie on toast as appetisers. They were well presented and tasty. All food was clearly fresh but the shredded parmeggiano on top of the croquettes. As mains we choose "arrechera" (low & slow cooked brisket), pollo borracho, pumpkin soup and Mediterranean salad. Arrechera was the winner I think. However, soup and salad were a good combination.
We enjoyed a nice couple of hours during our visit. Nice to come back and try the remaining Mains from the menu.
At COP$276k for a party of 4 (entrees, mains, one drink) we were very happy with our visit to...
