My girlfriend and I stayed here on and off for about a month. We were glad to have found it. A gem not far from the city center, about 5 minutes walking to center plaza, 10 minute walk to bus station. I recommend for couples or those who like quiet places. The family is in out so they give you your space. Sometimes you have the whole place to yourself, other times the family joins with friends and relatives :D Personally, we really liked our private room , comfy beds. We slept well. We usually wake up early and got the opportunity to see hummingbirds almost everyday we were there, near the Feijoa/ Avocado tree. But you gotta wake up early to see ;) Spent a few days in the dorms when the place was fully booked, the dorms beds were equally comfortable. We never had problems with wifi at the property, good wifi. There are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants near and around the plaza. Coming back at night we just wanted a place to relax in peace. Once Once hostel was perfect for this. I don't speak much Spanish but Angela and her family were patient If you see them you can ask for some recommendations. Can't leave Villa de Leyva without trying Milhoja, local snack. Many places around offer 'menu of the day', typically on weekdays lunch time. Good price, come with soup and drink. Other than the guitar and pull bars... which I quite enjoyed, the family is the reason why we stayed as long as we did. Bibi a staff working at the property was always smiling giving hugs. We were very happy for the opportunity to stay with Angela, her mother, sister and spouse for as long as we did. Even if you don't see them, you will feel like you...
Read moreWhat a joy, Gabi & Florent!||(Regards also to Paramo Chris who also patrols la hamaca!)||The road from Bogota was long, with Egan Bernal wannabes racing to Boyaca on 6th Aug. ||Better to stop in rainy Tunja, get some Glasgow weather again to stave off heimat. Tunja's grainy, and folks were mighty friendly like many in Glasgow. An intro to Colombia (not that Los Rolos - y Rolaquitas - weren't, but gotta get out to da country)||I don't digress much: hop on a minibus to Leyva.||Was to travel 2 months through this wonderful diverse country, with many wistful memories. Leyva laid it on first. A template, if you will.||One, one oughtn't to be taken aback by kindness in a fairly touristed part of the world. Yet, yet. It's taken me over half a year to review this hostel. Fresh as a daisy penned behind my ear. Do the glees flood back as you type? Yes, yes.||Once once. The door is like a horse door, where you can open the top hatch. Do a horsy kind of shake-the-mane-kinda-noise to be let in. Ach, dinny fash: this is a safe and happy place. Your bed is right there after cyclitic Boyaca, two hours to get from central Bogota to the north terminal, interminable traffic & Bernalistas with punctures.||Leyva has a huge & happy square with kites & people who can strum music to your ambivalent songs.||And Once Once has a long garden when you get back.||Stay here before your travels take you through more of this lovely...
Read moreI would have given 3 stars but since you refer to ME in my friend's review and did not tell the truth about ME I can only give you 2 stars - and that's because of the location. I am quoting you from your reply to my friend - "they did not stay 3 days they stayed 5". I arrived in Villa de Leyva on Wednesday 11/8 I can show you the bus ticket. I left the hotel Saturday 11/11(math), you can ask the owner of the apartment. I got so sick from the mold in the room and bathroom, I had to sleep in a mask and ended up going to the hospital because it was too much. The doctor said you cannot return to that room. Moving me to another room was no option for me - would it be better? You say in my friend's review we were taking advantage of you. In what way? Why would I need to make an excuse to leave your hotel as if it wasn't already paid in full? I lose! You make no sense and you are lying about ME. We told you why we were leaving - nicely. No argument nor shouting. We did not ask for a thing from you. You made no offer of any refund. We left. This was my experience here. It wasn't good.
I have travelled the world and lived in 4 different countries. Every accommodation isn't perfect. But rest and comfort are expected. Live up to your obligation as the owner. Don't take it out on guests by saying dishonest things about them because their...
