HOSTAL CASA DE LAS AMERICAS — Hotel in Cartagena

Being very last minute people we booked accomodation at the airport when we landed. Unfortunately there was a mistake with the online booking system and they were already full.. so we rang Hostal Casa De Las Americas and David had one room left for us! He literally saved the day. ||||When we arrived he greeted us and allowed us to check in early (we had been travelling for 14 hours throughout the night and we are still incredibly grateful for this!) ||||The room was perfect for us, cosy with a big flatscreen on the wall and fantastic air-con. The room was en-suite and the shower was great. The place was very clean and we felt safe there, it is central to Getsemani but also nice and quiet. The WiFi was also really good! David and his wife were chatty, happy and very helpful. After the reviews on Booking and Tripadvisor we booked a room here. 120000 peso's in Getsemani is cheap, so maybe our expectations were to high. The owners are really kind, but besides that, we were not happy and left after one night instead of three.||The room and bathroom were tiny, the airconditioning made so much noise! You can only sit on the bed or leave the room. We tried to sleep without the AC, but also the van made a lot of noise and the room was to cramped and hot to sleep. ||Overall the room is just cheaply decorated and some things (like floor tiles) are broken. We stayed here based on the great reviews, but honestly, we didn’t get the same experience. The room was very small, the bathroom even smaller, and only one shower head actually worked. The sheets were clean, but overall the place felt a bit run-down.

That being said, it’s in a great location — in the heart of Getsemaní but on a quiet street, so you can enjoy the nightlife and still get a good night’s sleep. It’s also very affordable.
