Hotel Virrey Cartagena — Hotel in Cartagena

Location is the only thing good about this spot. It’s on a good strip where lots of people walk by. The staff are gracious. But the pool is super small. It’s like a tub so maybe 12’ long by 5’ wide. Only big enough for two adults. The (older) woman in the cafeteria who cooks breakfast is extremely rude. She gets mad at you for fumbling Spanish and is at the buffet style stainless steel bar immediately to your right when you come in. Her ways seem racially motivated in my opinion. I prefer halal foods and their diet is basic and filled with pork products. DO NOT FALL FOR THE FREE BREAKFAST PROMOTION AND POOL SCHEME that I did. My room near the pool had a mildew and moldy strong smell…Also a bad roach 🪳 problem. You get what you pay for. For the most part the staff was really nice. The mean cafeteria lady doesn’t represent them as a whole. If you care about these things then don’t stay here. But if you like being in the mix then this place...

Not a great experience - but not a costly experience. The check-in process took a bit of time and patience on our side, and then we were followed to the room by a staff member who wanted to audit the number of coat hangers in the wardrobe (maybe we looked the sort that raised suspicions that we often left a hotel with a wardrobe related souvenir to show-off to our friends). Breakfast was interesting but we were served with the enthusiasm of someone who wished we didn’t exist. Best if you don’t have expectations of a swim in the pool (it is a big bath). Internet was available about 5% of the time we were there (2 days). Do not plan on getting any work done in the hotel room. It was noisy at night from the street and bars nearby and noisy in the day from the massive construction site next door. Furthermore there was no hot water...

Good hotel. Staff were really kind and there was always a smile on their face. Breakfast was good. Swimming pool looks nicer in the photos. Unfortunately the assigned room didn't have a window. The room was clean and the rest was ok, but the fact of not having natural light or air was not great. At checkout the person in the lobby was asking me to pay the stay when it was already payed. Check the conditions of your reservation!! If I would not have checked he could have made me pay 5 times what I actually needed to pay ... location is ok if want to use taxi to the city center, and really close the the beaches...
