Busy beach, not very clean. Many people were swimming in the sea. We were badly scammed here. Locals tried to charge us 500,000 colombian pesos for 4 drinks (120 usd). When we refused to pay that much, several men surrounded us. We were constantly harassed by vendors selling us everything they could try to sell us - massages, rap performances, sunglasses, sweets. Every minute someone approached us. Be very careful here.

This beach line is very commercial. Vendors continue to approach us to sell their crafts, food, fruit, sunglasses, tattoos and clothing. There is even guys just entering your umbrella space and sing or rap to get your money. The water is not cold but the ocean waves can be very strong at times, so be careful to lose your footing or swim. We have kids, so I won’t advise having kids going too deep into the ocean.

Public beach in Cartagena means that space is free but everything is occupied by paid umbrellas and chairs. The price is good, we paid 40k for entire day for 4 people. Alvares is the nicest person to serve there!

Unfortunately Cartagena Public beach at Bocagrande is a terrible place to relax, let me explain. The beach in my book is a beautiful beach, the ocean is beautiful, but the huge problem like everyone says is that the vendors are none stop, seriously truly amazing how big of a problem it is, I think if that city doesn’t have more regulations on managing vendors tourist will stop coming. I am not against people making money on the beach. I am use to it regular vendors, that is no problem. This is different None stop, I didn’t believe until I experienced. No rest the only rest is if you go deep in the ocean. You can have a break but the moment you come back all of the sudden they appear. There are like hundreds of them, and on the streets is also none stop. Truly unfortunate because Cartagena has a lot of potential, but the poor management really take away a lot of the charm. Also be careful on scammers, is sad to see people trying to scam you for anything, even I the change of a restaurant, they will give u the wrong change. Also this is not the USA, people don’t stop for you to cross the street, they will hit you...

My partner and her friend, both younger looking blonde women, were effectively robbed for all of the money they had after using some shade for 10 minutes. The men had forcibly taken there towels and put them on beds, which they then removed and put them on the ground. When they went to leave the men would not let them pass and demanded 600,000 pesos. Despite one of the girls being in floods of tears they would not let them pass until they gave them everything they had with them, which was around $120 CAD. This understandable ruined their trip and instilled a lot of fear in them walking...
