InterContinental Cartagena de Indias by IHG — Hotel in Cartagena

Stay: December 26, 2023- January 3, 2024.

Gorgeous resort that is Black people friendly with a beautiful, ocean front view as well as a large, cozy and roomy shower.

Uber is your friend. Airport ride was under $5. You can ride across town for roughly $6.50 USD with the Uber app.

Ketty. Jorge. Not sure why I wrote down their names. I ran into a big problem giving a $25 tip, in which they charged me twice. I did have it removed but it was a headache doing so. It's not about the $25. I enjoy tipping. It's the principal. Don't expect me to double tip PERIOD. Visit Sabine reaturant inside of La Serrezuela Mall for great food, entertainment and views. Townhouse Boutique for all you can eat boozy brunch.

Check-in was extremely slow. It took roughly 30 mins. The pregnant lady that checked me in was friendly. I'd planned to tip her before leaving based upon her friendliness, but I changed my mind because when I asked her to do something, she'd say something like: "We normally wouldn't do this, but I'll make an exception for you." My issue with her response is that it wasn't true. Because of my status, requests such as late checkout and adding a guest at no cost are perks. There is no fee for such requests. It literally states that under my status, on the IHG app. I also called IHG a week before touching down in Colombia to verify these 2 requests and they too, confirmed they're free perks with my status.

Wakeup calls were honored.

I did feel safe but they do have security breaches such as not ensuring all visitors are checked in nor do they do security checks for all vehicles, which is uncommon at high end resorts.

Iris took good care of my housekeeping needs. It was pleasant tipping her throughout my stay.

Attention Black Americans.. practically no one knows what washcloths, face cloths/face rags are. How the hell can I WASH MY BODY if I don't have face clothes to do so. DAMN! I had to call about this so many times!!! Even when you type it in Google Translate or call front desk, they will not know what you're asking for. Just ask for "facials". That's what Colombians call face cloths.

IHG restaurant food was of poor quality. Don't waste your time. View the restaurants I'd stated above.

While, I am a visitor in their country, I do feel they should have staff in client-facing roles speak better English. It will save frustrations on both ends. Because, when I pull out Google Translate and they still don't comprehend, then the English isn't up to par to answer the phone. Simple requests took hours to complete due to the language barrier.

Only 1 complementary water during entire stay. Shameful. No mobile key card entry. Shameful. No swim up bar. Shameful. 24-hour room service with limitations. Shameful,

The lady who checked me in wrote down my credit card number. I absolutely hate this and have never had this happen at any resort I've stayed at, where I opted for all charges and incidents to be placed on my card and I travel world-wide.

Slow kitchen- took almost 1 hour to cook simple, chicken dish. Food not good.

Luis Juliou rushed me over the phone when I called Friday night, December 29th. He must work on his customer service and stop being so short with Americans. He also ignored some of my questions. He must keep in mind we are 2 different cultures and languages. He was my one and only negative experience I've had in Cartagena. He didn't know what a washcloth was. He really thought I wanted my room cleaned at 10 at night. I never requested that.

During my recent stay, I was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional service, luxurious accommodations, and prime location that this hotel offers. From the moment I arrived, the warm and attentive staff made me feel welcome, ensuring that every aspect of my stay was nothing short of perfect. I did have a issue on check in at first because I was unaware that I hadn't paid for my room yet. But the staff member assisted me with everything I needed to know to pay for my stay with currency exchange amounts as well. The first thing I noticed is that the lobby is beautiful and modern. I had no idea when I went to the pool area that I and the staff would end up becoming amazing friends during my stay. They accommodated EVERYTHING I NEEDED. Fabian at the restaurant/bar took care of me for 5 straight days. Always attending to my menu and drink choices. Always checking on me for anything else I needed whilst I was able to relax by the pool. Get sunshine. and enjoy my stay. Jesus was also absolutely amazing . Attentive, Smart, and always smiling he and Fabian made our stay to IHG cartagena UNFORGETTABLE. I purchased the King Suite Ocean View. I was really contemplating the KING GRAND. But realized the King Suite Ocean was more than enough room for my stay. My room was a spacious haven of comfort, impeccably clean, and thoughtfully appointed with modern amenities. The plush bedding ensured restful nights, and the panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea from my window were simply breathtaking. The attention to detail in the room's design, from the tasteful artwork to the high-quality furnishings, created an ambiance of refined luxury. Bathroom area is HUGE. And a beautiful relaxing tub to relax my night away. And the most incredible thing about my stay, was how AMAZING the food was. WOW. Everything I ordered from the menu came just how I like it. Highly recommend the Shrimp and Chicken and Rice. The Burgers are amazing, The pizza is incredible. I even ordered desert for my Wife's birthday. Came just like she like it . We went to her room and seen that the hotel staff also left a cake in our room telling her Happy Birthday with a card as well. I will never stay at another hotel after the care I received from IHG Cartagena. I'm looking forward to going back ASAP. The outdoor infinity pool was Crazy awesome, with its stunning views of the sea, provided a perfect spot to relax and unwind and chill. What truly sets this hotel apart is its commitment to exceptional service. Every staff member I encountered was courteous, knowledgeable, and eager to assist with any request.
