I wish I could give this place a better rating, though unfortunately the actions of one night shift front desk employee made my stay unpleasant. The rest of the employees were terrific, the location was extremely central, and the rooms were fine. The pictures were not exactly representative of the actual rooms, they appear to be much larger when booking online. It is also extremely loud, though if you don’t mind wearing earplugs at night, you will be fine. My experience with the gentleman (if you can call him that) at the front desk… I had a couple of friends in town from the states Who I met up with over the two weeks I was staying in Medellin. After meeting one friend for a drink after my Spanish classes (Total Spanish in Parque Lleras is GREAT, btw, Juliana is the best teacher around), I wanted to drop off my work bag in the room before continuing out that evening. Going up the elevator to drop off the bag, we passed the front desk, not a problem. I drop the bag off in the room, and we heard music up on the top level, so went up to grab a drink… Which turned into a few drinks. It was a bit overpriced, but it was a nice intimate setting, so it was OK. Upon leaving the bar, the front desk guy approached me and said that I need to sign people in before going up to the room. I explained to him that I only drop my bag off in the room and we went up to the top bar (which we have a receipt to prove), so it didn’t really apply to me. He felt the need to argue with me on this matter, and refuse to drop it. After a while, it was obviously a no-win situation, so I dropped it (and changed hotels for the following week). I will not get into our argument/debate, as it was so unprofessional... just ridiculous, Oh well, I would not recommend the hotel due to their choice in hiring...
Read moreSo when you check in they tell you it will be $100k pesos to bring a guest back. Then the night manager comes in and tells you they meant it was $100usd. That's messed up ... 4x.
Also, for the same money you can find a room 3x the size, much nicer, and 10x more safe.
This is Colombia. Everything is in pesos. I paid the $100k guest fee, and told them I was going to my room and to call the police if they didn't like it. The police are in on it. They will put you in jail if you don't pay whatever random amount the night manager asks for. So you get robbed by both the hotel and the police at this hotel. Have a good stay!!
Update: No it is not clear! Your night manager couldn't even find the amount on an unsigned contract that he just edited and printed. I confirmed the amount upon check in. The $100k pesos turned into $100 dollars, which in the morning returned to pesos of $360k which is $90 ... the room was only $80, my guest could have gotten their own room for your 2am extortion bit.
Have a good stay everyone! The employees should get fired but even the management is in on the heist apparently. Have fun getting dragged out of your room with your girlfriend, naked, at 2am to be extorted. If the owner reads this, you should fire both the manager and the night manager. In thirty years of traveling, you should be ashamed of what you are doing...
Read moreOur stay at Epic was perfect for our three day trip to Medellín. From the start, the house staff was fantastic, especially Juan Jose. They were very invested in our experience in the city and did everything they can to make our trip easier, including booking airport shuttles and providing various recommendations. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and the location is absolutely in the middle of the all the neighborhood action. The only downside (for some) is that the clubs/ bars are close by and so it is a bit noisy at night until 2-3am; however, if you plan on going out or are a good sleeper this shouldn’t be an issue and may even be a positive. My girlfriend and I were still able to get good sleep when we went to bed around 10pm one of the nights. Of note, the clubs/ bars are all over the neighborhood, and I anticipate all the hotels have similar noise levels. Epic does provide white noise speakers and ear plugs. If you want to stay in a clean room, have excellent service, and want to be in the middle of the action in El Poblado, Epic is for sure the right...
