Some of the best coffee in Medellin. Digital nomad favorite. Still true but I had to change my review today.
Normally I order coffee and pastry. And those are very tasty. Probably because the baked goods are made elsewhere by professionals
But today I felt like somethng more substantial. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and a frappe.
NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ORDER SANDWICHES HERE.
They are trained to make coffee and slice cake. This is not a restaurant.
First ordering food throws the staff into a total tizzy. I waited 20 minutes for my order to be served. I watched table after table get their beverages while I am still waiting.
When I got the sandwich it was horrible. The absolute worst roast beef sandwich I have even been served in my life.
This was not an open faced sandwich, meaning it ics designed to be picked up in two hands and eaten. Meaning the meat must be thinly slice and tender.
This so-called sandwich was slavs of half inch thick tough steak. Trying to take a bit is inpossible. The whole slab comes out of the bread, leaving an air sandwich and a slab of tough steak that would need a serrated steak knife to cut into chewable pieces.
My Spanish isn’t yet good enough to argue. I was hungry for a good sandwich but left half the sandwich on my plate. Unedible.
Considering this place is in the middle of tourist central and caters to foreigners, you’d think they know how to make a sandwich.
They don’t make good food. Come here for the coffee, avoid the food.
Talk about leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
Please invest in some good carving knives or a food slicer. And train the staff how to use them. Otherwise stick to grilled cheese or tuna salad and remove this awful unappetizing sandwich...
Read moreCoffee ok, I wouldn't say something out of this world considering this is Colombia but what's really annoying is the wait time... 3 people in front of me in the queue and waited at least 15 minutes.. One cash register open and 10 staff or more behind the counter.... another 5 waiters, or more, doing nothing just walking around. What are they all doing?? You order your drink and food at the cash register so just imagine all the people in front of you in a queue - they are finally at the register and now are trying to decide what to eat and drink... what the heck?? this literally doesn't make any sense, just making people wait while others try to make up their mind what to eat... and then you can buy coffee beans, mugs and other items so poeple have questions about these as well... what on earth?? not seen a place managed this way anywhere else in the world. Plus all the staff (probably 20+), most of which don't seem to be doing anything related to serving customers... waiters just walk around, all the staff behind the counter... seriously sometimes 10+ people, no idea what they are actually doing apart from chatting and preparing a coffee / sandwich... 1 every 5 minutes. Maybe they really like team work here. A seriously weirdly manged place. Ok for getting some work done though.
Update: Thanks for...
Read moreBE WARE OF EXTRA CHARGES IN YOUR ORDER!! We went to this place and after paying, we saw a weird charge on our receipt. The charge was under “Tiendas Propina”. The amount was double the amount of our order… or more. When I went back to ask the lady at the counter what the charge was for, she told me that it was supposed to be the optional tip for the service (which generally is 10%) and which they are supposed to ask if you want to give. She was super apologetic and even offered to refund me the money. Long story short, her coworker who originally took our order, saw we were foreigners and decided to charge us 31,000 colombian pesos as tip, without asking, and thinking we were not going to ask for the receipt and notice. We always tip generously to support the locals, but this really annoyed me since what they charged us was outrageous. Even the lady who I told the incident to was in shock about the amount considering we ordered two coffees. Anyways… always double check what they are charging you for so that you are aware of what you’re paying. I am a big supporter about tipping when travelling, but do not appreciate when people...
