I recently stayed at The Masaya Hotel in Medellín for eight days, and overall, it was a mixed experience with some notable highlights and a few inconveniences. That’s why I am giving it only 2 stars. Pros: Stunning Views & Amenities:** The Masaya Hotel features a beautiful rooftop bar and pool, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Medellín. It’s a perfect spot to unwind and soak in the cityscape. Prime Location:** Situated right in the heart of El Poblado, the hotel provides easy access to a vibrant array of restaurants, bars, and shopping. It’s an ideal base for exploring the lively neighborhood. Friendly Staff & Aesthetic Appeal:** The staff at The Masaya Hotel were consistently friendly and accommodating, making check-ins and inquiries pleasant. The hotel’s design is attractive and well-maintained, adding to the overall appeal. Complimentary Breakfast:** Every morning, the hotel offers a free breakfast that is quite good, providing a convenient start to the day. Cons: Lack of Air Conditioning & Open Windows:** The rooms do not have air conditioning, which can be uncomfortable during Medellín’s hot days. Since there are no screens on the windows, guests must keep them open, which unfortunately invites large bugs into the room. Comfort Concerns:** The mattresses are quite hard. I requested a change, and while they replaced it with another hard mattress that was slightly better, I still experienced back pain during my stay. Pest Issues:** Late at night, I noticed roaches walking around the bathroom, which was quite disappointing and detracted from the overall comfort. Noise from Rooftop Music:** I was staying on the fourth floor, and because I kept the windows open due to the lack of air conditioning, I was kept up late at night by loud music from the rooftop bar. If you’re a light sleeper or sensitive to noise, this could be problematic. Dining Experience:** While breakfast was good, my dinner experience was disappointing. I ordered pork tacos one evening, and they were not enjoyable.
The Masaya Hotel has some fantastic features, especially its views, location, and friendly staff, making it a convenient and visually appealing choice for visitors. However, the lack of air conditioning, pest issues, uncomfortable mattresses, and noise from the rooftop bar are significant drawbacks that could impact your stay. Due to these issues, I can only give it 2 stars. If these problems are addressed, it could easily become a top choice...
Read moreThe hostel is huge and located in a good place. However, there is no space to rest in a peaceful atmosphere ( except in the morning, very early hours. ) There is a roof bar which is quite loud at nights and the furnitures are very uncomfortable. They stop music & service at 10 pm and asks the visitors to leave then it gets closed at 12 am completely. What are you going to do if you want to stay awake after that? No space inside the hostel...You have to head to the room. There is a fancy lobby with a huge restaurant but it gets closed around 12 am also. I stayed in a shared feminine room. There were 8 beds in the room with only one bathroom for all...I couldn't sleep well because some people arrived at hostel around 6.30 am, super drunk with lots of noise again. Of course this is out of the hostel's control but actually that hostel seemed to me a better option if you just want to party all night long and come to sleep and enjoy the sun and little pool on the terrace during the day. I asked if i could use a quite room for my couple of meetings but they told me i needed to pay extra for that. The people in the reception, lobby, restaurant and terrace were nice. The location is good if you wanna spend the night around Poblado, Provenza areas. However, as a solo traveler i wouldn't stay again...
Read moreHola! We stayed at Masaya Medellin for one week and it was a splendid. The rooms and the facilities made the hostel look like a hotel, and felt one of a kind.
What stood out the most and deserves credit about Masaya Medellin are the staff. A hostel can be cool, but there are the staff the makes the place feel great and welcoming. They made us feel like being home and helped us a lot. We came in some difficult situations during our stay, but they always gave us the necessary help. They even did the extra to make us feel comfortable and were looking two steps ahead at any time of the day. That was really important for us as we were in a different country and didn’t know everything.
We want to especially thank: Laura V: for always being in a good mood, giving us awesome restaurant and club tips, and as well as learning us salsa. Gustavo: for helping us when we needed the most, at any time of the day and for always being in a cheerful mood. Mr. Valencia (the security): for giving us guidance and helping us with different questions. We also want to draw attention to Alvaro, Laura and Laura.
We will highly recommend Masaya Medellin. It is probably the best hostel we’ve stayed at so far during our backpacking in South...
