Monday at 8pm - We wanted to celebrate our last night at Medellin with a nice dinner and a view . The place wasn’t very close to our hotel ( marquee ) but didn’t mind the walk especially with the raving reviews online . It’s in a modern industrial building , when you walk in , you enter into a the reception with a bar and some tables. It’s stunning with extremely high ceilings and surrounded by the view of the city but unfortunately some parts have too many plants which is nice but would be great to have a 360 degree . The restaurant wasn’t full , maybe 7 tables were occupied. There was large party that took up most of the only server ‘s attention/ time ( yes there’s only one person taking the orders ) . We shared the guacamole con Camarron ( the shrimp was doused in an oyster type of sauce ) , ceviche ( good ), tostada pulpo , esquites de cerdo ( a dish that failed imo , would have been nice if the corn was grilled not boiled , and was drowning in some watered down sauce prob from the boiled corn topped with the cheese ) and the berenjenas veggie ( the huge eggplant that wasn’t the perfect ripeness , cutting into certain parts that was hard- the sauce was flavorful though ). We were disappointed and had better expectations with the restaurant. There’s a disconnect between the ambiance , the reviews and the food . The drinks were ok , 1 out of 3 was good ( the ritual > the classic cocktails ). The server was nice , friendly and maybe if he had enough time to properly engage ( if there’s an additional person working that evening ), it would have been nice . I ordered wine and had to remind him twice . When it finally came , I got red vs white but was changed eventually. Maybe it’s just an off night and living in nyc where there are amazing restaurants, we had higher standards. The other tables seemed to have enjoyed their meals !

By: NYC Food Critic Let me tell you as someone who’s dined from SoHo’s finest rooftops to the secret speakeasies of Brooklyn, I’m rarely surprised anymore. But Mal de Ojo in Medellín? It didn’t just surprise me it pulled me back. Again. And again. Perched high above the city, this place isn’t just a restaurant it’s an experience. You don’t just eat here, you surrender. The moment you step in, you’re wrapped in an atmosphere dripping with cool the kind of vibe New York tries so hard to recreate but rarely nails. The cocktails? Genius. Complex yet smooth, playful yet serious just like the city below. The food? Bold Latin flavors with a chef’s touch, not overdone or pretentious, but crafted with a confidence you taste in every bite. And the view oh, the view. You think you’ve seen rooftops until you’re sipping mezcal here with Medellín’s skyline glittering under you. It’s the kind of place that makes you cancel your other plans and stay another hour, maybe two. I’ve been back multiple times, and each time, it’s like the city reveals a little more of its magic. If you’re in Medellín and you miss this spot, you’re not just missing dinner, you’re missing one of the best nights the city has to offer. 5 stars. And I don’t hand those out lightly.

I went there by myself recently for a special last night in Medellín dinner. It was 8pm on a Friday night and the rather brusque hostess seated me right next to the dj who was playing like club loud dance floor filling tracks to the dinner /drink crowd . Yes they have a nice sound system but honestly that’s just poorly music curation ..I can’t imagine the Colombian palate sees it otherwise . I accepted my seat even thought there were tons of open tables . Had a nice meal of grilled octopus and cocktail and excellent chocolate cake dessert. I must add that at my table by the dj, the strong smell of chemical cleaner was absolutely disgusting and overwhelming . Guess the floor is clean but cmon..that was just gross. Somehow I tuned out the insane volume music (umm I’m a raver /clubbed but in a swanky restaurant at dinner time, this volume just seemed really off). Service was good though hostess again totally rude on way out . Food and space and service are nice, think about curating the music a bit yall ..

Honestly one of the most bizarre terrible experiences of my life. I came in on the night of September 30th which is a Monday around 7 pm which is peak dinner time with my fiancé. The place was empty except for one other table. The hostess took us upstairs and it is a beautiful venue, she asked us to sit at the worst table directly next to a dj booth. We politely asked to sit at the bar instead in which the staff all looked and us and started giving us a hard time. We explained why and they let us sit down. We ordered a few drinks and were intending on ordering food. Once our drinks came no one came back to ask for our order. Instead the staff just stared at us from a distance. It was one of the most bizarre uncomfortable experiences of our life. We were planning on eating but after 20 minutes of them not coming back for our food order we just got our bill and left. We are two nice Canadians just trying to enjoy our time here in Colombia. I have never left a 1 star review here before and I am sure the food is delicious and the venue is beautiful but the staff were so horrendous, it ruined our experience, that I had to...
