My wife and I stayed at rango hostel boutique for 4 nights while on a recent trip to Medellin. As the title suggests we had a superb stay and really have few complaints about this place. ||In summary,|PROS |- Room - was clean and comfortable. Bed was comfortable and massive. Didn’t have air conditioning but Medellin elevation (1500m) means this wasn’t needed. They provided a portable fan. ||- Shower was great. A huge waterfall shower head with consistent hot water at any time of the day.||- Wifi worked well and didn’t drop out ||- Location was fantastic. It was only about 300m from the parque lleras which is a extremely popular nightclubbing district rammed with bars. This proximity meant we were able to enjoy this nightlife without having to walk too far home at night or take chances getting taxis. It’s 2km from the terminal sur or about 8km from terminal Norte. ||- Security - 24 hour reception and locked metal door. ||- On site restaurant - they have a restaurant on site called the bread factory which produces absolutely delicious food. You’ll smell it from your room. ||- Rooftop bar - once again a high quality offering with views over Medellin. A free drink is included in your room booking.||- Superb pizza restaurant located next door||- Laundry located 50m up the road. Charges 8000COP a kilogram and has a 3-4 hour turnaround. ||- Tour booking office on site - offering all kinds of popular experiences at reasonable prices. We did the la communa 13 tour with them and enjoyed it. ||CONS |- Probably reaching a bit here but our room appeared to be a repurposed dormitory room and thus the private bathroom was located externally to the room itself, which made for a short streak across the hall. ||- No shared kitchen although they do have a filtered water station and coffee is available...
Read moreIrish abroad! Recently stayed here for a number of nights. Pros: Private room was top class. Spacious room with a nice view and a great shower. 24 hour reception. Very handy. Laundry service that had my clothes back after a few hours in the same day - great job. Has a nice restaurant & bakery on the ground floor. There is a pizza place next door which is unbelievable. Location is decent. In the El Poblado region although I think this region is overblown - it felt like I was on one of those strips in one of those really touristy areas in other cities. Pool on top floor is more of a jacuzzi but nice to cool down.
Cons: Not sure if just quite season but the hostel was virtually empty when we were there. Loads of the rooms were empty that we could see. This lead to a slightly strange atmosphere. The hostel were running some activities in the evenings but there was only ever 2/3 people max on these. One thing I want to mention was the salsa class they ran. The salsa teacher was great and she was really patient and seriously good at dancing. However, the lessons were held on the terrace where there is a bar. The bar was kept open during the lesson and this is a very small area. It basically resulted in men at the bar laughing and joking at the dancing and they were also non stop staring at the woman instructor along with 2 of the girls in the class. It was extremely uncomfortable - if you are running an activity like this, I suggest you close off the terrace for that hour for salsa only. Would make it better for everyone involved. 2 of the men staring were also employees of the hostel which made it worse in my opinion as they should have known that it...
Read moreI’ve stayed six weeks. Period. - Honestly, Rango is the topp hostel in Medellín, and definitely one of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at! It’s hard to say what specifically makes the difference since there are so many points that just add up and create this amazing living and working atmosphere which it was for me: the staff is amazing, very accommodating, and simply wonderful, the amenities are great and kept clean at all times, the rusty industrial style is very fancy and provides this hip yet cozy atmosphere, the rooms are serviced every single day (which other hostel does that?), towels are included in the price and changed regularly or upon request, the rooftop bar offers space to meet other guests or simply enjoy a drink with views atop the city, the kitchen area offers space to prepare and eat your meals, etc. pp. And, probably the best for me, since the hostel was not at full capacity when I was there, the staff left the four bed dorm just for myself giving me much more privacy and adding an immense quality to my long-term stay. Also, the a la carte breakfast with five different options to choose from is outstanding, and clearly adds to the great total experience. (And, yes, it’s included in the price! The Swiss bakery provides fresh baking goods every morning, and the best croissants I have had in years!) Without doubt, I would come back to this hostel at any time, and can only recommend it to anyone who is looking for a high-class stay at a very reasonable price in Poblado, no matter whether it is just for a few nights or long-term - as in my case - while making use of the great working...
