I'm writing this while enjoying a cold beer at the hotel's tiki bar an hour before I have to (sadly) go to the bus station and head back to San Jose. It's mid-July 2021. I have been at the Hotel Tangeri for a couple of nights. I stayed in a vila - nicely equipped with a full kitchen and a bedroom with two queen beds. The hotel staff is very friendly and accomodating. I had a problem with the AC on the first night, and told the office about it when I walked by on my way to breakfast (which is included and really good). It was fixed by the time I finished breakfast.||||It's right on the water with a great view of the beach. The pool area and tiki bar are great - if you're traveling with kids, they'll love the beach and pool areas. The property is well-maintained, and my favorite part are the iguanas, which are everywhere when the sun is shining - seriously, if you have a fear of lizards, you won't like this place, but they are fascinating. I had a salad for lunch yesterday and there was one begging just like a dog until the waiter shooed it away (which was unfortunate, because I was enjoying it).||||Jaco is nice - plenty of options for eating, drinking, and shopping within a few minute's walk from the hotel. The locals are really friendly, the food is great, the scenery is phenomenal, but the beach is kind of meh - I understand that there are many better beaches in Costa Rica, but this one is popular due to its proximity to San Jose. But I came here to eat Costa Rican cuisine, drink beer, read a book, and enjoy the Costa Rican sunset, so mission accomplished.||||There are other hotels in Jaco that are closer to the night life and activity (although like I said, that's all just a few minute's walk away), but if you're traveling with family, or if your goal is to relax, this...
Read more2 night stay at Hotel Tangerí. Overall was a really good experience and enjoyed our time there. We had a villa room which was spacious and clean on arrival, slightly dated but the essentials worked. Showers take a while to heat up but we didn’t run out of hot water which is nice. Air conditioning was very effective and responsive but can be noisy if not on the slowest fan speed. We didn’t need to have our room serviced during our stay but we were given fresh towels on request from reception.
Three pools to choose from (one designed for kids and two for families). All heated which is a nice break from the west coast heat. Generally a comfortable pool and garden area.
Breakfast was a typical costa rican breakfast with one juice option, coffee with milk, fresh fruit, yoghurt, and everything to expect from a “tipical” breakfast.
Wildlife was good with lots of Iguanas to watch from a distance, there was crocodile warning signs around the hotel as it’s next to a river but we didn’t see any on our stay.
Very good value for money as beach front location and...
Read moreApartments are functional and clean, nothing fancy but all slept well (5 of us across 2 apartments). There are 3 small pools, one of which was being retiled whilst we were there but to be fair they were doing it quietly. Lovely pools and iguanas slowly pondering life around you - fabulous! We counted at least 8 iguanas daily and they were fascinating to watch. ||Restaurant is great, good breakfast with a great view and we ended up going for tea a few times too and it was decent. Beachfront location and near the pools. Can get waiter service for drinks by the pool if you want. ||Reception really helpful, although trips they run are expensive and can get them much cheaper on the Main Street. ||Beach didn’t seem particularly safe if you weren’t a strong swimmer so wouldn’t recommend for families. Decent to walk on though. ||Costa Rica is a beautiful country with fascinating wildlife and friendly people - would...
