Ola Bonita — Hotel in Jacó

This place is wonderful. Feels like very old school beach house in the best way possible. Its got lots of light & color. Very clean, nice shower and spacious rooms. Full kitchens and refrigerator (which I suggest you use, restaurants are expensive in the area).||There is a nice pool, plenty of chairs and shade. Just watch for the iguanas, they will try to steal snacks.||It is within walking distance of a few places to eat, and more importantly steps from a gorgeous black sand beach with a nice surf that will put you to sleep every night. Also, with a lack of city lights gives you a super black night sky that shows so many stars it seems fake.||Johanna (owner) is a sweetheart. Super easy to talk to and has a bunch of suggestions on where to eat, things to do, etc.||I am a super beginner surfer (just 2 classes) but there are a bunch of people out there during the day riding which gives a nice show.||Cannot recommend Ola Bonita enough. Absolutely loved...

We let our car on the parking of the hotel, supposed to be watched out from the lobby. Took the room keys and came back 2 minutes later. Our cameras and lenses (8000USD), 400US$ of cash and my friend passport had been stolen in between. The tenant told us that we probably had forgotten them at the previous hotel, and told us that "it was not possible that it was stolen there" ... (??)

Conclusion : definitely not safe, do not recommend especially if you travel with valuable assets.

Note: despite the below message of the tenant that argues that nothing happened in their hotel, I can certify that it actually happened at this hotel parking lot. I just photographied an iguana walking on the roadside 2min before, with the same camera., which maybe caught the attention of the robbers. Would have appreciated some support from the tenant, rather than an obviously false...

We stayed at Ola Bonita in Playa Hermosa for 4 nights initially, but ended up staying on and off for 2 months because we loved it so much—it truly feels like our home now in Hermosa Beach. From the moment we arrived, Johanna looked after us so well with warmth and genuine care, making our stay unforgettable. The room was absolutely stunning, especially with its breathtaking ocean view that we never tired of. Everything about Ola Bonita exceeded our expectations—the cozy, beach-house vibe, the cleanliness, and the perfect location right on the beach with easy access to the pool and local dining.
