Arenal Monara — Hotel in La Fortuna

Spent two nights here mid March 2024. Place was a great home-base for all the hiking and exploring the wife and I did.

Everything is newly built. Pics shown are what you get. A/C is cold and works quickly. Refrigerator on balcony works great and get things cold quickly. Shower is hot. Everything just works as it should and looks great.

Location location location!!! So if you zoom in on Google maps you'll see that the hotel is located in the north western corner, about 2 blocks off of the main drag, on the edge of the town. We were literally a 5 min walk from dozens of restaurants, shops, the town square but also nothing but nature in front of you, including amazing balcony view of the volcano. Best of both worlds. Included in your stay is a night time excursion into the owners garden where he will show you dozens of amazing insects, lizards, reptiles etc. In fact the hotel is apart of a much bigger, family run operation. They have a restaurant, tour company, hotels. It's very nicely decorated with all types of carvings, furniture, paintings, rocks, fountains, ponds, etc. Basically this is a few generations worth of work from people who live and work the complex. It's really is something.

Value town!!! Let's talk $$$$ we paid 150 bucks for two nights. Not each night, 150 combined!! (I am sure prices vary depending on which of the three rooms you book and what time of year you visit.) People, you will not get a better bang for your buck than this place. Wife and I travel alot and besides this one jungle hut we lodged in while traveling Belize in 2018 this is the best deal we have ever encountered. I'm sure those prices won't stay that low as reviews like mine pour in so get it while you can!! Also breakfast at the attached restaurant is great and the best value we got in La Fortuna.

This place is better than amazing! My husband and I stayed here for 9 days as part of our anniversary trip and Arenal Monara has been the absolute best place we have ever stayed at in our years of vacationing! Angela and Armando will forever hold a special place in our hearts!

I'll start with the modern, extremely clean and spacious room with a beautiful outdoor balcony that has a stunning view of the Arenal Volcano (when the weather cooperates). The property is nestled in a peaceful corner of the town where your view from the balcony looks out into pure nature. It feels like you have your own piece of paradise but are still in very walkable distance to the main parts of town as well as several delicious restaurants.

Next, the sister hotel next door (Xilopalo) has a great partnership with Arenal Monara and was very helpful in booking several excursions/tours for us during our stay in La Fortuna. We highly recommend the Sloth tour with Armando. He has an amazing eye for spotting sloths. We even saw a baby sloth on our tour.

Finally and most importantly, the gracious hospitality we received from Angela and Armando was extraordinary! There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe how kind they are! Starting with the night tour where we saw so many amazing creatures to their willingness to help with any questions or assistance we needed.
