Location/setting: The town of la fortuna is quite busy. If you sit at one of the open air bars you will see an endless stream on people and cars. So you don’t want to hear all that while you are trying to sleep and you do not want to pay $250 a night for the high end hotels with “hot springs” in them? This place is a great alternative. About 1/4 mile south of the town, it is still walkable. But the difference is astounding. This hotel is basically located in a public park, buried behind a small apartment complex. At night is is quiet. In the day, you have a lush garden setting with a stream running by the area where you eat your breakfast (which is included). There is an olympic sized pool available to you until 3pm. Then it is taken over by the local swim team. There is also a pond with ducks swimming around at all times. I sat outside and read for hours and only saw a few people. Plus there is a supermarket a few hundred feet away if you get hungry and want to avoid the restaurants. La fortuna waterfall, arenal volcano parks, and mistico hanging bridges are all within a 25 minute drive. The only thing I did not like about being in the park was that they had swim practice and workout classes in the evening. This involved a whistle being blown quite frequently. Luckily it does not last too late. I heard it before i left for dinner but not after. Once this is over it is very very peaceful. ||Room: I had room number 1. It is right behind the office which is open from around 7am to 7 pm. You can hear everything from the office. This wasn’t too bad for me because i wake up early and was out of the room most of the day. The room was basic and comfortable with a working air conditioning unit. There was no safe in the room. It was kept very clean. ||Amenities: As I said before, there is a pool but you can only use it until 3. Breakfast is included. There is no restaurant on aight but you can use their kitchen/microwave to make some food on your own if you want to skip the restaurants. ||Value: I am pretty sure that trip advisor does not allow exact prices on here but let me just say that i paid less for 2 nights than most people pay for one night at the hot springs hotels up north||Overall: i highly recommend this hotel for anyone on a budget who does not mind a short walk (or cab ride) to town. It is clean, the grounds are great, and the service was friendly. Try to avoid room 1 if you are going to be in the room during daylight hours or if you are a...
Read moreWe stayed there 3 nights. The hotel is relatively cheap. Around 50$ per night including breakfast.||Great location, 5-10 minutes' walk to the center.||Around the hotel, there is a lovely tropical garden, a lake with ducks, iguana on the tree in the yard, many birds, wonderful air, a feeling of living in the nature. There are benches next to the lake that you can sit on to relax|||| Excellent staff, beyond expectations, the hotel's owner Marianlla helped us get good deals on skyline, as well as cheap admission tickets to Tabacón Springs.||I would also like mention with love MARELIN who went out of her way to get me a phone charger that I forgot in a taxi. A lovely helpful staff. Including a young guy I forgot his name who was trying hard for us.||Breakfast is limited. There are three options and one must be selected. There is no buffet, and everyone gets a plate of his or her choice with one cup of orange juice (not fresh one).||We took the typical meal that included an omelet, rice with black beans, tortilla, orange juice, 2 small pieces of fried banana and of course coffee or tea. A satisfying meal. There is a fruit meal, and there is an American meal.||Breakfast is served by the lack. I loved it. You can make a hot drink there during the entire day.||||The rooms themselves are minimal and uncomfortable. All rooms on the first floor, no shutters, there are only thin curtains, no closets, there are two big beds each one is adjacent to the wall and it is hard to get on the bed and get out of bed.||No tissue, no body lotion, no conditioner, no safe, no coffee in the room, no fridge that was confirmed in our room...
Read moreManagement is dishonest, I arrived at the hotel around 8 pm due long drive and traffic from San Jose. The place was closed, all lights were off, no a body in sight for help, after looking for help for about 5 minutes I had no choice but to leave and find another hotel to stay for the night. When I came back the next morning, the front desk lied to me and said that as I was leaving, someone was waving and calling me, that was a big lie they came up with to cover for their mistake. I was already displeased and aggravated and I had to go to my tour reservation so I didn't want to argue with them and ruin my day even more.
I came back from all my day activities and slept one night, I then called my travel agent and told them that I no longer want to stay there due to their dishonesty. They only refund one night but not the rest.
This place is far from downtown where all the cafes and restaurants are, if you have nice shoes, they will get dirty because the front of the hotel is all muddy and it rains a lot. I would recommend hotels in downtown la fortuna and...
