Organico Fortuna is a beautiful restaurant in La Fortuna with a menu featuring creative, intentional, unique and nutrient-packed dishes with mostly plant-based and gluten-free options.
The food was organic and homemade (which means that the service could be somewhat slow at times, if the restaurant was busy). I ate here for numerous breakfasts, lunches and dinners during my week in La Fortuna and tried a variety of dishes including the Protein Smoothie Bowl, Smoothies, Kombucha, Hummus Bowl, Nachos (my favourite of all my meals there), Green Bolognese, Quinoa Salad (my second favourite meal) and Veggie Tacos. Everything tasted so delicious and was flavourful and satisfying. The food was always beautifully presented as well.
The appearance and decor in the restaurant was so beautiful and visually appealing! There was an outdoor sitting area at the front of the restaurant facing the street with tables among lots of tropical plants. Inside the restaurant, there were two hanging wicker chairs with hand painted signs and inspirational words behind them. There was an indoor seating area as well, plus a small boutique at the back of the restaurant selling health products and foods and clothing.
My only critique of the restaurant would be the prices. Everything was priced in US dollars, not the local currency, which made it pretty expensive and comparable (if not more expensive) to a fine dining meal in Canada or the USA. However, their food was AMAZING and it was worth it.
I was served by the same young woman each time I ate here and she was always so friendly and cheerful. The restaurant has a small kitchen and the food is all prepared from scratch and is homemade, so there was a bit of wait for the food (45 minutes was the longest I waited) during some of my visits, especially when the place was busier.
I loved the ambiance at this restaurant with its peaceful vibes and relaxing, natural atmosphere.
This restaurant was my favourite in La Fortuna and is THE best place to eat if you are looking for high quality, fresh and unique healthy food in Costa Rica. I would absolutely...
Read moreDO NOT EAT HERE. This was one of the worst meals of our lives — and at $200 USD, it felt like outright theft. We came here for dinner 2 nights ago and ordered: • Mushroom risotto • Tofu skewers • Jungle chicken • Hummus • Jackfruit tacos • Mushroom ceviche • 2 smoothies (green juice and chocobanana)
The only things that were actually good were the smoothies and the ceviche. The rest was honestly disgusting: • The “risotto” wasn’t risotto at all — just overcooked rice in a watery broth with mushy vegetables and no seasoning. • The tofu skewers were drowned in teriyaki, undercooked and had a strange flavor. • The jackfruit tacos were gross and unpleasant. • The hummus did not really taste like hummus. It was basically chickpea mash.
It’s clear this place does not have a trained chef or even someone with basic knowledge of how to prepare food. It’s a tourist trap targeting health-conscious eaters and vegans and is a disgrace! They should be ashamed of themselves!
And to make it worse: They charge 20% service fee — no transparency. Our bill was $200, for what was one of the worst meals we’ve had anywhere in the world. I even emailed them privately, hoping to give constructive feedback. No reply. They clearly don’t care.
That said, the waitresses were kind and attentive, and I want to acknowledge their efforts — they were not the problem. The issue is the kitchen and management behind this overpriced disaster. So sad. This place needs to be investigated, or at the very least, seriously restructured.
Organico Fortuna…….I want my money back!!!
Update: The owner saw my review, searched for my email and replied. She says their purpose and values as an organic health food restaurant are genuine but are having a rough week due to abrupt changes in the kitchen personnel. Hopefully she will due the honest thing and close the restaurant until she is able to fix the situation and get a real chef or offer a “minimal” drinks and food menu they can’t...
Read moreThe boyfriend and I stumbled upon this wonderful hidden gem as we were walking around downtown La Fortuna. We were delighted to find an organic dining cafe that features locally sourced vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. When you take some time to read their story on their menu, you'll learn that all their produce is certified organic and locally grown in Costa Rica which I love!
You'll also notice as you go deeper into the cafe that they also sell locally sourced produce, art, and fashion (equipped with a fitting room). We bought the Arenal Volcano painting, the Monteverde, locally sourced coffee beans, and the Miel de Abeja Doña Ana which by the way, is THE BEST tasting honey I've ever had and it even comes with a slice of the honeycomb inside!
We had the yummy vegan blended iced coffee, the chia pudding, quinoa cakes, and the zucchini noodles! All very delicious! They offer a variety of smoothies, juices, coffee, and locally grown kombucha and beer.
The atmosphere is outstanding with comfortable outside and inside seating. Adorn with positive messages at their eatery, this place is sure to offer the healthy food you need away from home! I only wished I was able to visit this place again while we were in the Arenal area to try their veggie tacos and their desserts!
A plus in my eyes: We were seated next to a spider and her spider web which was situated between two bushes. When we inquired about it (not complaining but simply asking), the lady working multiple job roles mentioned that it had been there for three weeks and she did not want to destroy its habitat (which by the way, is important to most ticos and it's amazing!).
All in all, you will surely love what this place has to offer and you won't leave...
