Hotel Malinche — Hotel in Quepos

Quepos is a great place to stay if you want easy access to Manuel Antonio, but not have to pay the tourist mark-up while being very central! Hotel Malinche is a great affordable option right in the middle of Quepos, within walking distance to lots of restaurants and also the marina. Manuel Antonio is an easy bus ride away, with the main Quepos bus station less than a 5min walk from the hotel.||||Room is clean and comfortable, with a private balcony. The A/C unit in the room is great and a perfect respite from the hot weather. Bed is comfortable.||||Front desk staff were very nice but spoke limited English.||||However...||||Bathroom was a bit strange - the toilet doesn't have a cover, and there isn't really any place to put anything anywhere in the bathroom except for a narrow glass shelf above the toilet. No towel rack or soap dish in the shower. I spent 2 nights here as part of a tour. On the first night the noise from the nearby nightclub was so loud the club might as well have been in my room! On the second night, which was a Monday, the nightclub must have been closed so the room was quiet. In contrast to some of the other reviews, I found the room to be clean, the shower was fine and the air-con unit was new and modern.The rooms are dated though and need upgrading. Wifi wasn't really usable in my room so I had to use it in the lobby. There is free coffee in the lobby which is quite good. The location is good, right in the centre of Quepos and a short walk...

I can understand the previous bad reviews - the hotel is actually quite old and probably too "simple" if you booked an expensive tour. But we had a room for 35$ per night with fan and it was really clean, spacious, with a huge spotless bathroom (apparently renovated). No insects or mold of any sort. The club/bar in front is a bit loud but we could sleep very well closing our windows. WiFi worked greatly (the room was basically next to the reception, the n. 9).
