I’ve never checked out early at a hotel before—until now.
What a truly awful experience at this “hotel,” which looks more like refurbished student housing, complete with mismatched decor and Ikea furniture. The outside looks nice enough, but the inside hallways could use some upgrades, or even a cleaning job! The walls are dented and broken, the carpet is stained and visibly dirty, and the elevator is shabby and only fits one person with luggage.
When we first arrived, our reception was ok. We asked Marko for suggestions about what to do and eat in the city, and he wasn’t very helpful. He just told us to see the Zagreb brochure…
In terms of the room, it was quite clean and modern. The floors weren’t carpeted (at least on floor 3), which was nice (the other floors appeared to have carpet). The washroom was very nice and contained L’Occitane products. However, the space between the toilet and the shower glass was tight (hit my head a couple of times). The rainhead shower sprayed water everywhere, leaving the entire washroom floor wet. There wasn’t even a ventilation fan, so the washroom was caked in condensation and puddles after showering. I nearly slipped and fell a couple of times because of all the water.
They don’t have adjustable thermostats, so you can’t control the room temperature. At night, even though it was 10 degrees outside, the room was 26 degrees inside!!! All they had was an upright fan, which barely did anything to cool the room. Moreover, we smelled smoke in the room, and we hadn’t opened any windows or balcony door yet.
When we did open the balcony door, we smelled the smoke more prominently. And the room was still hot in the morning.
The double bed was two twin beds pushed together, so it was very uncomfortable and hard. There were no blinds for the skylight, so it was very sunny early in the morning.
There were some positives: the breakfast spread was nice (though we weren’t offered any coffee when we sat down) and fresh. The location is in a residential neighbourhood, but easily walkable to the city centre (35 minutes). Just note it is right across from a school. It’s close to the airport by car. And it’s less than a 5-minute walk to public transit.
When we checked out after 1 night and told them why we were leaving early, the front desk staff was indifferent and uncaring. He said “sorry to here that” and showed us the door. Terrible customer service. Didn’t care to hear our concerns and no compensation.
In the end, we paid for 3 nights and only stayed for 1. And we had to pay for new accommodation. What a way to end our honeymoon...
Read moreNot what I expected—but still a solid stay
I stayed here for 4 nights in June (rooms 312 on the 3rd floor and 114 on the 1st). Here’s how it actually went:
Housekeeping wasn’t just lazy It wasn’t like they left our makeshift trash liner (a shopping bag) in place all day—it was emptied and replaced with a fresh one every morning. Small touch, but it kept the room feeling tidy.
Room sizes varied wildly I thought both rooms would be roughly the same—until I saw 312. It was spacious, light, and even had a little balcony. Room 114 felt cramped by comparison, and yet we paid the exact same rate. Not ideal if you’re hoping for consistency.
Stairs are a workout I assumed there’d be an elevator. Nope. Hauling bags up three flights became tedious—especially for my friend with bad knees who I moved downstairs. If stair-climbing isn’t your thing, steer clear.
AC quirks I expected a simple push-button cool-down, but instead: upstairs could hit 18 °C, yet sometimes refused to start; downstairs stubbornly hovered at 23 °C. And as soon as you remove your key-card, it snaps back to “auto” mode—wasting energy.
Noise level was surprisingly low It wasn’t like bustling city-center hotels—we barely heard anything. I heard the main door slam on my floor only once, and my friend only noticed it when drunk guests came in late on the ground floor. Overall, very quiet.
Friendly, English-speaking staff Reception and restaurant teams went out of their way: stored our bags when we arrived early, helped book taxis, and even let us grab a quick breakfast before checkout.
Decent breakfast buffet Not Michelin‐star quality, but eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, pastries and fruit gave us plenty of fuel for sightseeing.
Bottom line: Livris Hotel wasn’t exactly how I pictured—rooms vary, no elevator, temperamental AC—but the price, cleanliness and genuinely helpful staff make it a good value for a short Zagreb visit. Would I stay again? Yes—just I’d request the big 3rd-floor room and maybe bring...
Read moreI stayed in their single room for two nights, which was about 160EUR. Booked it in a hurry and filtered the hotels that are rated badly, and this hotel comes up with a positive review so ok!However, I was quite shocked in general. There was only one lift, a small one, which probably fits only one person and one suitcase. My room was very tiny, but that’s not their fault coz I didn’t check. But there was a mosquito in the room, and one dead on the wall…. Got two mosquito bites in less than ten minutes. I didn’t want to post a review but the next day I went back to the hotel, I got five mosquito bites in the room…The sink is small and there was no space to put my cosmetics or literally anything I normally need in the bathroom. The shower room is also really small. There was only one layer of bedsheet on the mattress. For the breakfast, instant coffee is served and no staff would come collect the plate you used. When the guests of a table are gone, new plates were not immediately put on the table and tables were not set. On the second morning, guests have to walk around the dining area looking for cutlery which should have been the job of the hotel, and turn out getting from other people’s tables. Poor them! Only one or two hardworking staff seem to be doing all the work. Food was just ok. And half of the food on the counter was not touched. People also kept asking if they could pay for a nicer coffee which shouldn’t be the way it works. This makes me start wondering its four-star hotel status…I am a frequent traveller and always stay at four-star hotels, the experiences were completely different from this one. Having a small hotel doesn’t necessarily mean bad cleanliness and facility. The only thing that lives up to the expectations of a 4-star hotel would be its amazing staff.I wouldn’t recommend it to other...
