Hotel Lero should not be considered a 4 star hotel. It feels like a 3 star hotel with the facade of added renovations and amenities. From the start, the front desk doesn't even feel welcoming when you walk in the door. We were not even offered to have our luggage brought to our room. The room itself was alright, but very basic. Small fridge (which stopped working, but was replaced), water heater, some instant coffee. You know, the basics. Bed wasnt too bad, but you are only supplied with one pillow a person. As soon as I got to the bed, I noticed a nice large pencil scribble about a foot tall next to the bed. Not a big deal, but it really detracts from the experience of staying in a "4 star" hotel - when expectations are that it would be more clean than your own home (I also told the front desk about it, but nothing was done). On that same note, I also noticed that there was mold growing in the corner of the shower as soon as I walked in... What I would say was the best part of the stay was breakfast buffet. There were a good amount of options, especially considering that it was free. Probably about 3 different tables with 6-8 options per table, plus cereals, juices, coffee, tea, etc. This next part is what brought this review from a 3 star to a 2. On the last night of our stay, we were very tired, so we decided to try dinner at the hotel. We had been eating at places around the hotel and in old town previously. So, we went to the dinner buffet, also known as Restaurant Terra. It's the same place that holds the breakfast buffet. We walk in, take a seat, have our order taken for drinks and walk over to the buffet area. Immediately I notice sparce the options were for dinner, especially since there were so many for breakfast. One table for hot food, one for old (salad bar), and a dessert table with a few options. Now, at this point, I was only a little disappointed, but I also figured the bill couldn't be too high considering what we were getting. Lol, no. 155kn per person, not including drinks. Not even water. It was was another 50kn for a small beer and soda. I was pretty upset. Not necessarily for the price itself, but because it was not listed anywhere. And I mean anywhere. I just felt a little blindsided. There wasn't even water to drink after my beer. Something that was provided with the FREE breakfast. For comparison, we ate at Vita Bella (which I cannot recommend enough) down the street for less than half the price. Even most of the places in old town are cheaper. I cannot say I would be staying here again in the future, nor would I necessarily recommend it. Book at...
Read moreAs many of the other reviews state this hotel is not in the old city - it is a 20min walk (about 2km) down to the old city, which in the heat of the midday sun can be an issue for some, particularly if you are trekking uphill back to the hotel. The best alternative option is to catch the #4 bus from the Pile Gate and then get off on the 4th stop which is 100m away from the hotel (4min bus ride). There are not a large number of reasonable restaurants close by and the on-premises Bosnian restaurant (Taj Mahal) cannot be booked to the room.
It is a mid-range hotel built in the 1970s, so it does have an older feel. It is not that large, with just over 150 rooms but larger than the boutique hotels we were used to staying it on our Croatian trip. We stayed in one of their classic rooms - without any view (unless you count the adjoining building as a view). The double bed was just two single beds pushed together, which meant disappearing down the crevice in-between regularly during the night. I'd suggest booking a superior room, which are larger, more modern, in the newer wing of the hotel and include a bathtub. The Wi-Fi was easy to access and relatively fast. The air conditioning only be turned on when the room key was inserted, which meant, dependent on the room orientation, you could come back to a warm room which might take some time to cool down. They only supplied one bottle of water for entire stay, which they could easily address. The swimming pool is fairly small, almost always in shade and can only be accessed via the lobby (doesn't have any change facilities by the pool). We arrived in the morning, well before the 2pm check-in, and whilst they stored our luggage and offered us use of the pool whilst we waited there really wasn't anywhere to get changed and take up the offer.
The breakfast, included in the room tariff, was a reasonable quality with a relatively choice of options however it didn't vary at all during our five-day stay.
The lobby/foyer can get congested at times when larger tour groups arrive, with all their luggage in tow. The staff were polite and endeavoured to help us where they could. Not my favourite accommodation in Croatia but serviceable for...
Read moreI stayed here for 8 nights. The room given to me was a superior room, facing the back side of the hotel, large windows but no view, just a hillside with greenery. The room was clean, bed was comfortable. I never got any welcome wine bottle which some reviews are mentioning about. Just a bottle of water. The housekeeping is strictly ok. They didn’t change my sheets for 4 days. On the fifth day I informed the reception about it and it was done. The housekeeping staff don’t really clean the room. Just change the towels, wipe the wet floor with the used towels and go away. My room was not once vacuumed during my stay. Just arranged. The carpet was smelling of dust on the fourth day. Aircon is ok. Maybe they need to clean the filters of the aircon? The housekeeping needs to be better. The bathroom is of good size and compact. Hot water pressure is excellent. The bathtub is inconvenient. Slippery, a little high to get in and out for short people like me, and the water spills out due to the shower door not having been properly installed. The handshower also keeps turning no matter how much you adjust it and splashed water everywhere. So one has to hold it to control it. They should remove the bathtubs and keep a nice standing shower with proper door. The breakfast is excellent! They have hot dishes, four types of eggs, bread station, cereals, juices, coffee machines, fresh fruit and canned fruit stations, varied stuff. It was really good! The dinner buffet is a hit and miss. If the groups are large, expect a good dinner buffet, else expect reduced items and repeated food. I never tried the in room dining. Reception is helpful and efficient. Location 10/10. Bus stop right outside with bus no. 4 that takes you into the old city and the same back to the hotel. I also got my laundry done here and it was very good service. So I will come back with my family as I felt safe and comfortable. I can ignore the minor issues as they try to help out a lot when asked....
