We stayed two nights at the Mikes Kamarium City hotel, room 112. Right next to us, the room was being renovated, which caused a lot of noise, with drilling amongst other things, starting around 8.30am. We adressed this at the counter at check out and told him (the manager?) that we couldn't understand why you'd put us right next to a room that's being renovated. At first he denied that this was true, which is absurd, because the door of the room being renovated was wide open and we greeted the workers both mornings, you could literally see what they were doing. (Of course we don't blame the workers) He told us that there were no other rooms available. Then we said that he should let their guests know in advance, so there is still a option to change hotels. He told us that they didn't know in advance when the workers would come and their planning, which sounds very unlikely to us. We then said that it's truly a shame, because the room was very nice, and so was the breakfast, but that the drilling early in the morning really spoils the experience of the stay. He told us he was sorry and we asked if there was anything he could do for us. He offered us lunch, but as we were leaving, this was no option for us and he told us that, in that case, there was nothing he could do for us. In that case we would leave a bad review, we told him. It's truly unfortunate that in a very reasonable conversation like this there is nothing they can do for us, when they know in advance that you're putting your guests right next to a room thats being renovated. We understand that a hotel needs maintenance and november is low season, but if we would have been a few rooms away, it would have been okay for us. Very disappointing and despicable service. We will not book this...

Read moreWe booked the hotel for 5 nights when we were stranded in Larnaka during the Israel-Iran war (as many other Israelis were) when there were no flights to Israel. The booking was non-refundable and we paid in advance. Fine. We happened to find a way back to Israel and only needed to use one night. Again, we were aware that the reservation was non-refundable (even though some leniency given the circumstances would have been much appreciated) but, since there were many Israelis stranded with no place to sleep (due to the volume of people everywhere was fully booked) we asked to allow someone else we knew to use the room during the remaining nights since we already paid… the receptionist said this was not allowed and that “the only thing she can do” is allow us to leave early with no refund, and open the room for new reservations in booking and our friends can order the room there, for full price of course. Double-dipping at its best. When we left the next day we asked the other receptionist not to reopen our room for new reservations until the day after - since we were not entirely sure we will be able to go home and there was a possibility we will still need the room we reserved and paid for. He said ok, but after less than 30 minutes our room was already listed as open (and was booked and no longer available after an hour)! Luckily our friends found other arrangements, but it all felt like a blunt exploitation of the situation and desperation of people and the sudden increase in demand which cost us...
