I don't know why this Hotel is five stars, as that was definitely not my experience. Barcelo Brno cuts corners, showing that is not a 5 star hotel anymore. I heard there were new owners, it's starting to show where they lack quality and leave the staff to deal with it. Which is sad, because the front end staff work hard to keep their patrons happy but many things are out of their control.
The mattresses are old and they put this cheap foam pads on them that makes you sweat. I stayed here for more than 2 weeks and never had one decent nights rest due to cheap old foam bedding that got retained body heat making one sweat. Stay anywhere else if you actually want to sleep. I got no REM sleep because how much the bed foam topper retained heat, waking up in sweat after just a couple hours. More issues with the bedding, as proper sheets were not provided, they didn't understand that a double-packed quilt is too heavy, not breathable and they wouldn't provide a regular bed sheet, like normally provided between the quilt and you. So. All you have is a quilt on the bed. Very odd. The noise from the hallway echoes into the room and when walking in the hallway you can hear people in their rooms clear as day. as you walk by. Each room has a echoe hallways which promotes noise.
The bar staff complained about a tip if they didn't like it, and food was consistently burnt and over cooked so the service could have been better. The price was overcharge for everything as if they're doing you a favor. I went to the bar one evening to get water, and they couldnt provide it because the cash register was offline. She wouldn't even note it to charge my room later. It was just, "sorry nothing i could do." The hotel itself is like 86F degrees hot, so you start to sweat on the way to you room. Stay somewhere else. I had to switch rooms several times due to noise of cleaning staff early in the morning waking me up as the linen closet was right outside my bedroom, super dusty rooms, dusty cob webs and dust balls in every room i stayed, and dog urine in the corner of another room. In general the place seems a bit rundown and the lack of maintenance or care shows for what is suppose to be 5 -Star rated appears to be a 3 star in disguise. All the shower heads leaked and sprayed water outside of the tub on the floor when you took a shower. The front end staff tries to help but just downgraded my room when I complained about being woken up early the first time. Do not disturb sign on your door means nothing at this hotel. I visited during offsesson for tourism, so the place was kind of empty, paid the cost of their normal king room w jacuzzi tub and view becaue of late booking, received a twin bed situation and no view, terrible bedding and one jet tub that is just a waste of time, this place is not worth the headache. Thers also this weird perfume smell they pump into the hotel, it's not pleasant. Only one working elevator, so you have wait the line for several minutes and then cram on and off each floor to allow people get off the elevator.
Furthermore, breakfast is not included and cost $20! I recommend sleeping elsewhere and just visiting Barcelo for the musicans in the evening. The front end staff and evening musicians are 5-star service all the way, even surprising me with a birthday treat when i arrived back home from work. Very excellent, however the rest of the experience lacks even 4 star status if you can't get a decent nights rest, it's not worth staying at...
Read moreI have stayed in this hotel for 5 night from Sunday to Friday in an executive King room, we paid almost 800 euros, so it is not exactly cheap!
Everything was fine for the first 2 days, the problem with our stay happened on Wednesday night, at around midnight. Suddenly there was extremely loud disco music which made the whole room shake, on top of that there are a lot of people screaming, shouting outside the hotel window. It was impossible to have any rest at all. When I looked outside the window I realise there is a disco club right opposite the road from the hotel and only few meters away.
After trying to sleep for another hour (around 2am) without success, I finally went to the reception to complain and asked for some ear plugs. The lady at the reception was helpful and understanding and offered a room change the next day. The ear plug did not do much and I finally fell asleep around 4am when the music finally quiet down a bit.
I don't want to blame the hotel for this because it is out of their control, but I wish I had known this before I booked, for more than 170 euros a night in a 5 star hotel, I really expected a good night sleep as the most basic requirement.
I was so angry that whole night and I was absolutely exhausted due to lack of sleep the next day. It absolutely ruined the holiday a bit. The next day we got changed to the room on the other side of the hotel, and the noise situation improved a lot.
It is crazy that a extremely loud disco club is allowed to be opened next to a hotel, especially a 5 star hotel....
I am still giving this hotel a 3 star despite the noise problem, because I feel bad for the hotel that happen to be opposite a super loud disco club and they can't do anything about it and just continue to let this club ruin the stays of its customers. But the hotel tried it's best to accommodate and live with this problem.
However I do think the hotel is generally a bit over price for the level and quality of service it provides, also during our stay it felt more like a business hotel than a 5 star luxury holiday getaway. It did not meet my expectation as a 5 star hotel.
The hotel could have done a bit more to make the customer feels more personally cared. For example, people at the reception usually don't greet customers in the morning or when walk pass them, the porters just stand around and also don't greet anyone the entire time during our stay, I also never seen the doorman helped anyone opening the door or do anything rather than standing there. I also see hotel staff standing around, ignoring customers and just playing with their mobile phones. There is a sense of lack of energy and passiveness about the hotel and its service.
It is all those details that makes the difference between a good hotel and a...
Read moreI’m writing to warn people in advance to avoid this hotel, as this situation shows how staff behavior can greatly impact on a hotel choice. We booked for three (two parents and a child), paid accordingly (as shown on the screen), but in confirmation (attached) we received for two people at the same rate (also shown, it is the same amount). At check-in I have explained this to receptionist Danylo and they allowed us to stay (but promised to provide a bed for a third person), but charged extra for a third breakfast. Later they have forgot what they promised and didn
t provide bedding for my bed (no sheets, no blankets, see photo) - is this really a 5-star hotel? We had informed the hotel via booking that our arrival would be at 3:00 PM (it
s also a standard check-in time at their hotel), but upon arrival, our room was not ready, forcing us to wait approximately 40mins in the lobby. The hotel’s parking system is unusual - you must leave your car, which they then relocate elsewhere - but this would have been acceptable. However they forgotten our belongings in a car. I instructed a receptionist, to retrieve just one suitcase and just one bag from the car,yet they forgot to do so. We waited another hour until our items were finally delivered, However they still have forgotten one bag (blanket) at the end. Electricity was unstable, lights tripping breakers, and we had to reset the panel multiple times after a receptionist’s guidance. In short, we lost two hours exploring Brno due to delays, received no bed for a third person (however they didn’t forget to charge us extra for breakfast). They have forgotten two times our belongings left in the car. At the end, another receptionist has informed us that we’d need to wait 30 minutes at checkout because they had to retrieve our car from the parking area. This was a terrible experience, and I strongly advise against staying at this hotel. This stay ruined my family’s mood despite booking a costly... Read more
