This was my first experience with the North Vietnamese style of cooking that is so prevelant in Czech Republic. Overall I was impressed though there were very many subtle differences that I noticed between here and back home at our South Vietnamese districts in Houston. Right away, I noticed the heavier use of scallion and more savory flavors as opposed to the sweeter broth of the south. There was also no accompaniment of tương đen which we absolutely crave as a condiment. We ordered Beef Pho, Bun Bo Hue, and egg rolls. I was a bit surprised when the waitress did not understand when I tried to order cà phê sữa đá but I did manage to get some form of Vietnamese coffee that was only slightly sweet. The noodles were considerably thinner and shorter; I think this is a change made to accomodate Europeans. Overall, the food was very flavorful and I really enjoyed the differences in style. I jist wish I had ordered extra chiles because after a few minutes the slightly spicy from my bun bo hue subsided and I was wanting a stonger spice level but the...
Read moreWe we're very underwhelmed after so many great reviews. We had fresh rolls, bun bo hue, bun xao bo and homemade lemonade. First, the lemonade came in a carafe with a rim that was broken in several places. Luckily the rolls we're made fresh, as my boyfriend is allergic to carrots. However, they we're quite tasteless and the meat was tough and dry. Also the dip did not add a lot of taste as it was mainly spicy and tasted like a convenient product. The bun bo hue was ok, but not exceptionally good. The bun xao bo we're fried noodles (usually it is more of a salad), very salty and tasted mainly of roasted onions. The meat was also quite bad - seemed to be prepared some hours ago. All dishes lacked freshness and herbs - not at all authentic vietnamese cuisine. Quality of ingredients, cooking as well as presentation of the dishes do not reflect the good reviews. All in all a very...
Read moreGreat place to have quite authentic Vietnamese food. Place is quite big even if it doesn't look like it from outside. Staff is quick and even when place is full you don't wait too long. Little bit pricey but you get huge portion. It's very tasty. Definitely recommend. Great location in the historic city center, near popular Jacob's square. This time we tried Bun bo nam bo, both meat and vegetarian version. Classic version is great, all flavours you'd expect, quite lot of sauce and lots of beef. Vege version was interesting, you get it in say sauce instead of fish sauce, and tofu is tender, crispy and not full of fry grease. Nice change from lots of bistro's. We got fried spring rolls as appetizer. Same as tofu, great, crispy, full of stuffing. We'll definitely come back soon. One of the best Vietnamese...
