The good part is the cleaning of the room; the bathroom really shines, with great care and consideration put into it, In addition, some of the staff is really forthcoming. You may get a complimentary cup of tea, coffee or chocolate near the reception, 24x7, and the reception offers often sought after stuff such as toothbrushes, deodorants etc. reasonably priced in a self-service fashion. Breakfast is not overwhelming, but quite all right. Want the room cleaned? Place the symbolic dust tray outside the room as a signal to the cleaners; if not, the room will stay as it is, often clean enough and certainly more environmentally sustainable (and profitable for the hotel, of course).||The location is very central; with the main railroad station just 5 minutes away, and the tram ("Letbane") which is a supermodern variant of the traditional electric tram, where you flick a switch on an app (DSB.DK) to pay once you enter the tram, and turn it off when exiting, not ordering anything before you need it, and a new tram coming every 7 minutes (daytime) and obviously a bit more seldom at night.||Improvement points include the hotel itself; with some rooms at the top floors with plates in the ceiling with what is reminiscent of water damage; I would suggest renovation of these. See picture examples below, and judge for your self.||Lightning on the rooms could be improved, as well. And perhaps adding a thermostatically controlled bathroom heating with user selectable temperature as well; sorely needed in the autumn and during the winter. Note that there is no ventilation per se in the hotel rooms, except a noisy little fan in the bathroom that starts with the light switch there, and that stays on for app. 20 mins. after you turn it off. Do not use the light if you go to the bathroom at night and dislike high pitch sounds, it will drive you crazy once you try to go to bed agains. Ventilation yes, the windows that can be...
Read moreA lot of the negative reviews strike me as either people with unreasonable expectations that the hotel cannot control (loud teenagers on the road outside?), or people who aren’t accustomed to a lot of European countries (complaining about lack of AC). While my actual rating is 4, I’m giving a 5 because I do not think Milling Ansgar deserves the reputation reviewers are giving it.
The staff are above and beyond helpful. They are kind, courteous, and accommodating. While the breakfasts do not vary day to day, you are given a wide selection that includes freshly prepared food on a way utterly unlike the majority of U.S. hotels. Add to this free pastries/sweets at midday, a decent free coffee machine, and and free slushy machine, and I would say this hotel downright spoils you for the price you pay.
The rooms may be small and the style overall “old”, but I’m not sure what else folks expected: the hotel does not attempt to hide that it is an older building. And to that point - the location is EXCELLENT for walking the city center and using public transportation of all kinds alike.
So yes. 4* from me. Much better than most U.S. hotels, especially if your reason for staying isn’t to just exist in a hotel. 5* on submission to combat some of the wild expectations of other reviewers on here. It’s the right experience for the price...
Read moreOdense is a charming town with a fairy-tale feel, and this hotel is like that. Remember, you are in the capital of fairy tales and you cannot stay in a modern hotel. Milligton Plaza Hotel is as charming as Odense. An old, mystical house, an interesting lobby, a shabby antique elevator and beautiful rooms. The equipment in the rooms is a bit modest, but so what. The rooms are comfortable, clean and homey. This is a hotel with a patina, a hotel that should be protected as a monument. It rarely happened to me that I was happy to return to the hotel in the afternoon for a tea party. Here it happened every day. Fruit, coffee and juices are also available all day. The breakfasts are great, otherwise nothing special, but nothing is missing either. Everything is available, fresh warm bread is excellent. The next good thing is the staff, who are extremely friendly and not in a professional way, but sincerely and directly. The best point is the location. 5 minutes to the station, two minutes to the tram. And yes, 5 minutes to the city's not-to-be-missed open kitchen Storm Packhus. Great food for a moderate price. I spent a nice week in Odense among good people. The key to this was also a nice experience with this charming hotel. Maybe we'll see each...
