The hotel is at the end of the street away from all the loudness and craziness of the Sosua main street where all the bars are located which is one of the best things about this place. The other good thing is the view, you absolutely have one of the best views of the ocean at this hotel...The people who work here are also friendly and most speak a bit of English...That is about it as far as positive things about this place. It is a decent place to stay if you are traveling alone if you can get the place for a deal...The place has huge potential if they would just update some of the basics and invest in upkeep of their rooms. I will list the pros and cons.||||Pros||Location, away from all the noise and I believe all rooms are beachfront views||Staff are friendly and helpful and speak English for the most part||Sometimes they have a $45 deal per night||Walking distance from the main beach and walking distance from the Sosua strip where the bars, stores, casino, etc is located||Each time I have visited, the place has been generally clean inside the rooms.||The grounds/landscaping is very nice here..||Security available 24/7.||||Cons||-Rooms are EXTREMELY OUTDATED..I last rented the Penthouse 1BR Suite which has TONS of potential but, furniture is extremely outdated, no HDTVS and the TVS are still the big back tv's from the early 2000's...The stove did not work...The shower barely puts out a decent stream, light bulbs were missing from lighting fixtures everywhere... I regretted renting this room because it was 5x the amount as the standard room and definitely not worth having all of these problems...This place needs to invest in the basic things for their rooms such as the lighting, towels, etc.||||-I dont necessarily use washclothes or towels at hotels, but each day housekeeping left ONE wash cloth...and two towels... The room had a in-room jacuzzi, but no towels for it.. Come on VH, get some towels for your guest!!||||-Wristband...This is the only place that I know of that requires its guest to wear a wristband...What this does is put you had a huge risk...you are wearing a wristband that says "VICTORIAN HOUSE", so EVERYONE knows where your hotel is.. Walking down the street, people see the white wristband on your wrist and know where you sleep..that is a huge security risk... This is not an all inclusive property...wristbands need to be eliminated...I would much rather flash my ID and check in with security when I return to my room instead of letting everyone on the strip know where I am sleeping at night. The rooms use keys with the room # on it, so again, this goes back to the hotel being extremely outdated...||||-Kitchen in the penthouse suite...stove did not work, the sink did work...and it did not have a microwave, I am guessing because it had a non-working stove?||||-Accessibility, some rooms are on the first level, but the rest are either upstairs or downstairs with no elevator..so if you are reserving a room and cannot do stairs, you will need to reserve a specific room type on the ground level. Penthouse suites are up 3flights of stairs..and some other rooms are down three-4 flights of stairs...spa rooms are on the...
Read moreOkay. So this is NOT a posh exclusive resort. We booked on Expedia, and we had problems from before we even arrived. ||About one week before we arrived, we were advised that the two 2 bedroom apartment rooms we had reserved were unavailable. ||We were not able to reach the hotel by telephone. So the issue was not sorted out before we arrived. ||When we did arrive, the room situation still hadn't been corrected, but we were given alternate apartments for the night. || Fluent Spanish would have been an asset during the conversations with front desk.||The rooms themselves were basic.|| Because of our reservation issues, for the first night, they had not prepared previously for our arrival.... and we found 2 frogs and a lizard ready to greet us. Our refrigerator didnt work properly, and there was only tepid hot water. There are no phones in the room, so we roughed it for the night, and reported it to reception the next morning. ||We were able to see the manager in the morning, and he was able to fix the reservation issues immediately. Our room was thoroughly cleaned. And it started to feel like vacation had actually started. || Internet service in our apartment was spotty, but we were given the password to the wifi in the reception area.||Now on to the positives. The staff (save for one man on reception) were very friendly and helpful. We didnt have the all inclusive package, but ate breakfast once on property. The chef is talented, but be prepared to wait. You can enjoy the absolutely gorgeous view from the restaurant while you do.||There is access to the beach from hotel property. This allows you to avoid the people who hang around the public access area to Sosua if you want. I think the gate closes at 6pm.||The hotel pool was remarkably clean, and well maintained. ||And the location was great. With walking distance of the major restaurants in the area, and the banks and currency exchange.||Is this the best hotel I've ever stayed in? No. Nor is it the worst. Bottom line is, if I'm ever in the area I would stay here again. I would also recommend it to my friends, but remind them to manage their expectations and pack their patience - and download a...
Read moreWhen we entered our room we discovered that the balcony door did not lock due to being broken into many times. Maintenance gave us a bolt to put into a hole in the doors to keep it closed. That evening I was looking for a light switch in the dark. I touched a outlet and got electrocuted. There was a piece of metal hanging out of the plug. The next morning we left to go on a tour. When we arrived back our money had been taken. Hundreds of dollars. I went over to the safe and tooched it and it fell off the wall. We informed the staff on duty and they said there was nothing they we're going to do about it. The manager on duty also gave us a false name. We continued to complain and say we we're going to call the police and they stated that we would be arrested if we called. We then spoke to the night security manager and they said they would investigate the incident. We later found out he works for the local police. I spoke to a employee at the hotel that says this happens all the time. We then began informing other guests of what happened and to be careful. At that point security and staff began watching us. We also noticed that above the door of our hotel room was a green light that was not on any other door on our floor. I believe they put people in that room to signal thieves. Later that evening we woke to a knock at our door and it was another guest that overheard what had happened. She was concerned because she had just came back to her room from a night out to her door wide open. On the top of her door was another green light The floor above us. The next afternoon we spoke to another manager that was very apologetic but offered no solution. Did not offer to refund the room or anything. They continued to say they would investigate but how does that help with our stolen money. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Between the hookers and lack of security go...
