You cannot ask for a more a more perfect location to visit Cuenca (Ecuador's 3rd largest city)The center of the city is noted as a UNESCO World Heritage Trust site because of its many historical buildings, all within easy walking distance (several blocks) from Hostal Pichincha International. (not to be confused with Hotel Pichincha, several blocks away on General Torres)||Reasonably priced at $18 per day this place was made more perfect due to the attention Gladys and her sister Dolores. Every morning breakfast with a smile from Gladys.||Full showers, in each room, inner courtyard to visit or catch up on email. ||I rented a car from Austral Rent A Car and visited Cajas Nat’l Park to the West of Cuenca, about an hour’s drive and then North to the city of Azogues with an ancient church being restored. Hostal Pichincha provided free parking during the evening hours in the public parking area that also adjoins this property. If you park there during the day you pay a small fee.||It was rumored that it is possible to visit a different church each day of the year in Cuenca. On your way to those, there are plenty of shops to visit and restaurants to try out. A quick favorite of mine was DiBacco, an Italian restaurant. Lauro, spent some years working in New York in the restaurant business and is an excellent resource for information.||Always felt very safe at Hostal Pichincha, with Gladys or her sister Dolores letting me in or out of the locked gates or entrance. Don't look for typical address number on the building because there was none when I got there, although the name, Hostal Pichincha is prominently displayed on the exterior of the Hostal above the main entrance. Breakfast was always freshly made by Gladys who always greets you with a smile.||If you absolutely have to take a taxi anywhere, such as to the airport. Just step outside, they're everywhere and reasonably priced.||All future visits to Cuenca Ecuador will be at the Hostal Pichincha. Hope...
Read moreI have stayed here on several occasions from 2007 through 2012 with my husband and now stay here in the summer with a group of up to 30 people. The rooms and washrooms are spotless. The inner coutyard and dining room are lovely. The owners, who are sisters, are accomodating and honest. The location is ideal for exploring the beautiful downtown areas of Cuenca. Many good restaurants, shops, pharmacies, clinics and the plazas with the majestic cathedrals and churches are a short stroll away. I highly recommend Hostal Pichincha. Their brother owns the adjoining enclosed parking area so if you have a car you may park in this secure and...

We found this hostel after a recommendation from a family member. We are thankful for that! The place was very clean, located in a very strategic place where you can move around the city, and the owners make the stay worthwhile.
