This is a popular hotel in the business district of Quito close to Carolina Park with plenty of shops, bars & restaurants on its doorstep and approx 30-60 mins from the airport (depending on the traffic).
This hotel has quite a busy road at the front and a not so busy one at the back.... so if you are not used to noise, make sure you ask for a room higher up the building / away from the traffic as soundproofing is okay but not 100%
It's a huge conference & events hotel, so it was very busy, but we found the hotel staff friendly and the included buffet breakfast was plentiful. They also have a restaurant, bar, cafe and place for afternoon tea on site.
Upstairs on floor "M" (via the 2nd block of elevators at the rear of the building), can be found the swimming pool (which has gym equipment around the side of it) and a yoga studio as well as energy drinks/snacks for sale and a free of charge purified water dispensing machine. We saw people coming in from outside the hotel to use the pool & gym, so they must sell memberships.
We stayed at this hotel 4 nights on 3 separate occasions during our trip around Ecuador, as we kept needing to come back to Quito airport.
It's a nice hotel with good furnishings and decor, but due to the high turnover of guests, certain basic maintenance items in the rooms are overlooked (as staff just don't have time and it's not picked up on by the ladies cleaning the rooms) . Our experience of every room we stayed in was the same...good decoration, but a variety of maintenance issues (e. g. only x1 coffee cup & x1 capsule supplied for the coffee machine; door knobs loose & needing screws tightening; nowhere to hang hand towel next to hand basin; missing plug from hand basin; shampoo conditioner & bath gel not properly replenished and ran out; plug did not fit the bath properly so water ran away and also the bath was not draining properly as partially blocked; insufficient hooks in bathroom to hang towels to dry which meant towels still soaking wet the next day and had to be replaced....not very eco-friendly; table lamps with loose connections and not working/unsafe).
They provide x1 bottled water per person per day in the room. They also put a very nice bunch of flowers in our room and provided some cake for our anniversary, which was lovely.
Suggestions for improvement to the hotel rooms:-
Get the maintenance team to go through every room in the hotel checking everything works properly.
Bed mattresses are not very comfortable and need a soft "topper" to be installed.
Pillows on beds are terrible (thin, small, hard, synthetic). Need replacing with large, plump and comfortable pillows.
There is no kettle or any way to make a cup of tea in the room after a long journey. We had been driving for 5hours from Mashpi in the traffic and just wanted to sit down on our own in the room with a hot drink!
The reversible air conditioning cannot be independently controlled in the rooms, (even though there is a panel on the bedroom wall). You have to ring reception every time to make adjustments, which is really annoying because the "adjustments" are not immediate. Suggest changing this system.
Have a dedicated phone number within the hotel for in-room requests as the reception desk is too busy. We asked for some glasses and some extra pillows multiple times and kept being directed to different phone extensions within the hotel. Eventually the items appeared 4h later after we had chased...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Dann Carlton Hotel with my family for three nights and although there were some positive aspects, there were also multiple issues that left us somewhat dissatisfied. We stayed in rooms 311 and 611.
First and foremost, I must applaud the exceptional customer service we experienced throughout our stay. The staff was attentive, polite, and always willing to assist. From the reception to the restaurant staff, everyone was friendly and made us feel welcome.
One highlight of our stay was the breakfast. The variety of options available was impressive, and the quality of the food was excellent. We all enjoyed starting our day with a satisfying meal to fuel our activities.
The hotel's location was also a major advantage. Its proximity to various attractions and amenities made it convenient for exploring the area. Additionally, the lobby and common areas were well-maintained, creating a pleasant atmosphere for guests.
However, despite these positive aspects, there were several disappointments that significantly impacted our overall experience. The first issue was with the shower in our room, which did not meet the minimum standards. The water temperature fluctuated uncontrollably, posing a safety concern, especially with children. It was frustrating to have to limit our showers to a maximum of two minutes due to this issue.
Another concern was the limited control over room temperature. Adjusting the temperature required assistance from the reception, located in the basement. This inconvenience could easily be improved by installing individual climate control units in each room.
Furthermore, the hotel advertises a swimming pool for guests, but it is actually outsourced to a fitness center. This means that the pool and other facilities, such as the gym, were shared with non-guests. In addition, the lack of complimentary towels at the pool was disappointing, as we had to bring our own from the room.
In terms of amenities, the hotel fell short of expectations as well. The espresso machine in the room came with only one capsule and one cup, which was insufficient for two people. It would have been more desirable to have extra capsules provided or the option to request additional supplies from the staff.
Moreover, the cable TV in our room did not work properly.
Unfortunately, even after requesting a room change due to the faulty shower in our initial room, we were disappointed to encounter the same issues (shower, room temperature and TV) in the substitute room.
Taking everything into consideration, I cannot confidently classify Dann Carlton Hotel as a 5-star establishment. While the attentive customer service, delicious breakfast, and prime location were commendable, the shortcomings regarding the shower, room temperature control, shared pool facility, lack of towels, insufficient room amenities, and faulty TV cable were disappointing and impacted our overall experience.
I sincerely hope that the hotel management takes note of these concerns and makes the necessary improvements to provide guests with a truly luxurious and hassle-free stay...
Read moreDann Carlton is a great, almost luxury hotel.|Staff are great and very friendly! This hotel works well for English-speaking travelers, but you should still know some basic Spanish words/phrases to make it easier for yourself and staff.
