Our first visit in Ecuador, being from Toronto where we have many good Italian restaurants I was very impressed with Romolo e Remo's authentic cooking. It’s located on a side street, a patio downstairs, attached to a larger interior restaurant. The challenge for us is looking for vegetarian food and this place has a English menu. The owner came over to help us decide with vegetarian options and said the chef will change a menu item for us to be without meat. Their minestrone soup, pasta, pizza were amazing with authentic Italian cuisine and flavor. Their service was very polite, helpful and staff were friendly. They have great selection of food as you can see from the photos. I loved sitting there looking at the wall pictures theme made up of Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. In our short stay in Quito we visited this restaurant few times. Highly...
Read moreI met up with some friends at Romulo e Remo last week (their suggestion) for lunch. I am transitioning to veganism so I carefully looked through the menu and found Spaghetti alla Puttanesca...no mention of cheese or cream or meat of any kind so I figured that it was a safe bet. I didn't even think to ask about that beforehand because at other places they'd usually just bring the parm to the table and shred some on your plate IF you want it. I chose to eat my meal anyway because we were short on time and we couldn't wait for them to bring me a new plate. Don't get me wrong, it was freaking delicious and that's why I gave it 5 stars but I really wish they'd either mention on the menu that "all dishes come with Parmesan" or, better yet, that they'd give...
Read moreThe owner is supposedly from Italy. I guess he should go back to his home country and learn back the basics that he definitely forgot. We went there with an empty stomach excited to discover what we read to be a great Italian place and in the end left with… an empty stomach. We ordered the so-called pizza and ended up with 4 small rectangular pieces of ‘pizza’ without any crust. We are still wondering how they technically managed to serve us that… did they cut the crust beforehand, are our four slices coming from the middle of a bigger rectangular pizza or are they just completely ignorant?
Must be on the top 3 worst pizza that I have ever eaten
A positive note on the ingredients and specifically the cheese that were quite ok
