We spent two nights of our Ecuador vacation at Hotel Suites Gonzalez Suarez. We were promised by e-mail to be picked up at the airport... no one was there when we arrived at 10:30 pm. I called the hotel, got the story that the driver had road trouble, and promised another driver would be there in 20 min. After 45 minutes of waiting we finally were picked up (I wish they had told me to get a taxi)... The rooms in the hotel were OK. They first assigned us one that smelled moldy but changed us to a better room. We went to tour northern Ecuador for 3 days, so we left extra luggage in the hotel and reserved two rooms for our return. Surprise! on our return they had given the reserved rooms to someone else, and put us on a taxi to a nearby hotel they owned... Hotel Muros. They put my husband and I in an upstairs room (3 flights up with no elevator for two elderly people). The room adjoined the loudest discotic in the city... with banging music past 4 am... needless to say... no sleep was possible. We cancelled the reservations for the rest of our vacation and through the recommendation of a friend found a fantastic hotel, just behind Hotel Suites Gonzales Suarez... with better view, just slightly higher price, but much better service. We travel to Ecuador on vacation often... but will NOT return...
Read moreI would recommend strongly that you not stay at this hotel. ||||The hotel is well-located to take advantage of the many restaurants and nightlife in the newer part of the city. It's a short taxi ride, not easy walking distance, but cabs are cheap and come quickly when called. ||||The front desk staff was engaging and very helpful. The room was spacious, had a large bathroom, and a narrow terrace with a limited view. ||||All that was more than offset by the condition of the room . The paramount concern was the very strong smell of mildew in the room. The closet was so bad we couldn't use it. Anything left in it quickly picked up a mildewed smell. It lasted in my jacket for a week. ||||We cut our stay short and left the next morning. At departure I reported the condition of the room to the front desk staff, who seemed surprised to hear of the problem, but not particularly motivated to do anything about it. ||||The room price includes breakfast, which was a limited fruit offering - an apple - and eggs made to order, plus toast and very heavy coffee. Not up to the standard offered by other hotels charging...
Read moreWent to stay here as part of a 5 night stay in Quito. Got there and place seemed dark, made nothing of it. Got taken to our room which did have a balcony but it did not have much else. It had no lights at all,no heating and no key. ||One light was hanging off the wall and when we enquired about why it didn't work the receptionist said she would get a new light. 20 minutes later there was nothing. ||Obviously we complained and we got shown room 2. Although it was a much larger room it was having work done on it and the shower had a relatively large hole in the wall. We declined.||They then offered us what was the master suite. Jacuzzi, lots of space. But the place was still without light or without key and without heating. ||I would not recommend this Hotel to anyone. It's damp dirty and not fit for purpose. Once it has been redone I'm sure it'll be lovely but until then, I would recommend you...
