We stayed here in 3 different rooms. We were part of a birding group but came 1 day early. We stayed in a suite on that day but had to switch to a regular room the next day. When we were done with the birding tour, we stayed one more night in a different suite. The suites were nice; we had a balcony on the 4th floor suite. Both suites have a washing machine, kitchen, microwave and a jacuzzi bathtub. I’d recommend staying in a suite if available because the regular room is quite small. Strangely, they didn’t provide facial tissues or towels so we had to buy them from a supermarket nearby (the Supermaxi market on ave 12 de Octubre is 20’ away on foot). ||Breakfast was ok with fruits, eggs and bread with ham but the view overlooking the valley was wonderful.||There was no taxi in front of the hotel. To use the yellow taxi, go to Hotel Quito just 3 blocks away. Several waiting taxis are usually there. We spent only $3 taxi fare to go to Quito Old Town Mercado Central. Food at Mercado Central was extremely cheap and excellent so it was worth going there. For bakery, Fondant cafe panaderia on Ave 12 de Octubre is 8’ away on foot. A pretty good hotdog and burger joint (Los Hot Dogs de la González Suárez) was 2 blocks away. On the negative side, the Mirador park next door is full of empty alcohol bottles, garbage and graffiti but the place feels...
Read moreBeautiful, clean, hotel. It is a no smoking hotel and the rooms do not have the typical musty smell. I have no allergy symptoms at all. Many rooms have stunning valley views from private balconies. Great security with 24 HR front desk. Location is amazing for beautiful views of the valley below. Several staff speak English and are very friendly and attentive. The front desk staff help find any service I need. They quickly arrange taxis at the door to take me anywhere I need to go. The best guided tours I had were arranged by their front desk not purchased on line. They provide bottled water, safes, ironing boards, and many amenities in the room. There is excellent in room internet (fast enough to easily stream shows) The hotel has a spa and gym. The restaurant has a glass surround with the breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys below. Outstanding included breakfasts with most rooms. Cafe Stubel goes above and beyond with beautiful plate presentations using colorful fruit purees, fresh fruit, and edible flower and herbs. They have interesting and surprising fusion dishes based on local food favorites. The waiters are friendly and helpful and are often seen between meals helping guests with luggage or questions. Hotel Stubel is my favorite stop in Quito and by far the best value...
Read moreCareful when booking at this hotel because despite guarantees you may not get what you are expecting. I booked a suite directly through the Stubel website while on the phone with the hotel front desk. They confirmed that the suite I was booking was on the third floor and had a balcony and a view of the valley. I told them it was very important to me to be on a high floor and they confirmed that I would not be lower than the third floor. I also sent a follow-up email reiterating my conversation with the front desk and confirming the balcony. Upon arrival I was given a suite on the first floor without a balcony and I was told it is impossible to change rooms today or at any time during my four night stay. My room smells like a swimming pool and the entire first floor is full of condensation. The view is of a tree and a fence. I was offered no compensation for this change. In fact I was not even offered an apology upon check-in. Since I checked in on a Saturday I was told I would have to wait two days to even speak with a manager, who will not be onsite until Monday. I am very disappointed with this hotel. It came highly recommended and I expected a more professional...
