I know that this review is too long to be fully read by most people. So, let me begin by listing the most important of several excellent services first. I'll follow with one thing which can be easily improved. But, this hotel has provided the best service on any hotel in which I've stayed. This includes several "world class" hotels. My wife came down with a sinus infection. I inquired at the hotel desk about finding a nearby doctor. The hotel had a doctor on call. She arrived at our room (along with her male assistant) within an hour of my inquiry. She examined my wife (taking the usual vital signs) and prescribed three medications. These were called in to the pharmacy and they were delivered to our room within another hour. There was no charge for the doctor's visit to our room. The pharmacy bill was $21.21 for three delivered prescriptions. Then, someone from the front desk (who was bilingual), came up to verify that we understood the prescriptions (since the instructions were in Spanish). All of this was started by one inquiry to the front desk. My wife felt like she was a queen. Second, internet access is very important to us. The hotel had excellent "plug in" connections. Suddenly, the wired connection stopped working. The Wi-Fi access in our room was not very good. I called the desk, they sent up someone to see what was the problem. After a lot of work, he determined that my computer had a bad port for the wired connection. So, Wi-Fi was the only option. He, going above and beyond common service, brought up a wireless router to our room, he plugged it into the wall outlet and we had excellent Wi-Fi service for the remaining 3 days of our visit due to this dedicated router. The final example of excellent service had to do with a "free night" because of a credit card offer. The hotel initially didn't know about this offer and billed me for it. We were leaving that day and needed to get to the airport. The desk clerk, Maria, realized that we were returning in several days and offered to "hold" the charge until they could sort out the situation. (Incidently, this offer is not available with the Ecuadoran version of a charge card.) So, they were trusting my on this issue. When we returned, the issue still hadn't been resolved. Finally, Maria told me that they would work to get it resolved and that regardless of the result I didn't have to worry about paying the charge. The exercise area is on the roof with a beautiful view overlooking the city. The equipment was very new and in excellent shape. The breakfast was very nice. Especially appreciated were the fruit, the fruit drinks, and the yogurt drinks. The desk staff spoke good to excellent English. And, they were very willing to work with me and my "adequate" Spanish. The beds were very comfortable. The rooms were spotless. The only thing that really needs improvement was around the clock coffee service which is touted on both the web site and on the in room list of services. Unfortunately, they have coffee in the breakfast area only during breakfast. The in room coffee makers don't seem to be well made. The first night's room had a coffee maker which didn't work. The room used upon our return had a coffee maker which worked for about two cups and then stopped working. It was promptly replaced by our maid. I would like to have coffee available in the public area all day (as is done commonly in the US), or if there is insufficient demand (pretty likely), have extra coffee pouches available to make more coffee...
Read moreWe stayed here in late June after our plans to stay in Old Town were scuttled by Quito general strike and demonstrations.||We found the hotel to be closer to a regular Holiday Inn rather than a Holiday Inn Express. The room and bathroom were a comfortable size. Comfortable beds and nice bathroom layoutBreakfast spread was kept hot and fresh and featured egges etc and Ecuadorian items.||For the early birds there was a cart with coffee and a few breakfast snacks to tide one over till breakfast area opened. The area has a few local restaurants and a couple of restaurants next door. Many things were closed due to the general strike. But the area is a generally pleasant area with Quito's Carolina Park and Artisinal market with an 20 minutes or so walk. The telefrico a short cab ride away.||The gym is on a top floor and one could use the equipment while enjoying the skyline views of quito. A nice way to enjoy a workout.||Perhaps the best reason to stay here, however, is the staff. Breakfast area staff went out of their way to be helpful and get our day started on a high note. Front desk staff answered questions about the limited options available to guests due to the situation in Quito with honesty and professionalism and helpful advice.|| Special recognition for Maria at the front desk and German of the concierge staff for their assistance with friendliness and courtesy and above all understanding of the situation in Quito with the requirements of thir tourist guest. Not necessarily an easy task to balance but they did the job and balanced the various things in a marvelously guest friendly way and not skipping a beat in being helpful and effectively communicating with great command of English.||Thanks for a good stay in difficult...
Read moreFirst of all my.name isn't the one to whom you're sending this review. The person mentioned was on my party (Flight Crew) and l did paid for the 3 rooms/nights we stayed there. This mail makes me think that I wasn't awarded my stay points and frankly I don't appreciate receiving messages for someone else even though I know him as I hadn't received any message to my name. On the other hand just if you're interested in my comments I'll allow myself to tell you that Internet service is awful and when I told the front desk about it they answered me kindly that I should have reported that earlier in order to get a modem for my room; because there was trouble with internet since few days ago. I just guess: If you know that you have a deficient service why didn't you advise in advance when you provide the internet codes and announce that you'll be provided with free internet because your IHG rewards status. Other person in my party reported several anomalies immediately upon arrival in his room that were never attended.
When checking out my other fellow Pilot; Mr. Magana (Mr. Torres is the Flight Attendant); was asked for a missing towel. He immediately answered that he noticed upon arrival to his room that there was a used towel hanging, the sink was wet and apparently one towel missing. He reported that immediately, but seems the report wasn't properly addressed in the log book as it should.
So in short. You have a great building; though you find the way to make the stay uncomfortable. That may me think if it is worth to continue visiting IHG hotels.based in...
