A comfortable home away from home. The staff were so friendly, helpful, and always open to a chat. The terraces were great for hanging out or even meditating and exercising in the peace & quiet of early mornings. The bathrooms were always clean. I had a spacious twin room to myself at a good rate for low season, I don’t think it would be worth the full price but I suppose that’s what you get in a capital city. My two notes there - the pillows were quite flat & hard, I ended up putting a cushion inside the pillow case to make it bigger and softer, and having the room over the courtyard meant I had music outside my window all day and people going up & down the metal staircase to the roof, but I used ear plugs and white noise on my phone when I was trying to sleep earlier than the 10pm cut off for noise. The kitchen especially was a good place to meet others and share ideas over breakfast. Two notes here as well - they really need some proper sized bowls (!) and for the money, some protein at breakfast would be appreciated, or a more substantial cereal option like granola. As there are only 20 or so beds available, even when full, there is a calm vibe and most of the guests seemed to be staying for a while with many using the spaces to work from abroad. The location is good in the sense of being able to walk (or take cheap buses & ubers) to many neighbourhoods like La Floresta and La Carolina, rather than being confined to the historic centre as many backpackers seem to do. However it’s not so good to pop out for a good meal at night if you aren’t in the mood to travel, mostly fast...
Read moreThe stay at El Patio is always a pleasure. The hostel is owned administered by two LOCAL sisters from Quito (Cynthia and Johana) that are always present, up for a laugh, a joke a recommendation or help. The whole staff is female, which is also very cool i think. The area is the best and safest of Quito. In walking distance to the best restaurants and bars in town. One block from a big supermarket, just across the street of El cafecito, a great coffee place.
The beds are comfortable, the lockers are huge, the 3 terrasses are perfect for reading a book, drink a beer and enjoy sunset. Also on the tree next to the upper patio there are multiple hummingbirds.
All together, I felt home at El Patio. Its a true oasis of peace and Cyn and Joha are simply amazing people. My first impression of Ecuador could not have been better. Will...
Read moreBook elsewhere! They wasted me a day and $50USD after booking the wrong date. I even confirmed a few times and asked them to confirm with the agency as they had direct contact via WhatsApp in addition had to do a special early check out process the night before with the keys because their reception closes early and opens late which was very inconvenient. I waited 45 mins at 7AM for the tour to realize they booked the wrong date.
The location is not convenient it’s a 20 min walk to old town. Just save yourself the hassle and book elsewhere. Unprofessional, careless behaviour. Didn’t take any accountability and left me on my own, eventually I had to reach out to the agency’s customer service for a refund, which was awful to navigate and they refused.
Really ruined my hostel experience;...
