As a native to Quito, finding good vegan food is very hard to get and when i found out about this place i wanted to give it a shot.
But caution, the service will be slow and difficult depending on what server you get when you try to order from the menu instead of the usual daily lunch meal they have already prepared.
Ordered as entry a empanada made with veggie and corn and it was very good with the hot sauce they have on the table but our waitress did not give us forks nor napkins which we had to get ourselves.
We ordered a typical “meat” dish called milanesa which is breaded “meat” with French fries salad and avocado.
The milanesa was wayyy to soggy and had CHEESE on it which was not vegan, the avocado was disgusting black and they had turned it over on the plate so you wouldn’t notice how bad it was (my boyfriend didn’t even want to eat it) the French fries was probably the only good thing and the salad was very dull.
The only time our server provided us with fast service was when she came to give us the bill and immediately waited for us to pay and took it back.
Horrible experience and I’ll provably never come back. Save your time and go somewhere out of the Plaza Foch for vegan food, I’m sure they’ll take better...

We tried a vegan Burger (with cheese and mushrooms) and hot dog, as well as a few sides and dessert. The dog was a quality, typical meat substitute, and the burger was made from grains. Both were absolutely delicious, and the bread baked on site is excellent. We had papas bravas as well, something I miss from Spain, and they were tasty, though the sauce was skimpy. The pastries were really good.
I had a honeydew melon juice to drink, and my girlfriend a pineapple juice. Neither was quite ripe (though the fruits are in season), but they were still good.
Our service was good, and the space very pleasant. I hope to be back here again.
Update: We've been back twice since. We have generally found everything just as good, from spaghetti to ceviche to the Philly cheese steak. One word of caution though: we did have at least one item each visit made incorrectly, which is difficult if you are lactose intolerant/vegan. Today, for example, two items ordered vegan arrived with cheese from dairy, though we were very, very careful to order with the (upcharged) vegan cheese. Based on our three experiences and slightly mixed reviews, I feel El Maple deserves 4 stars rather than 5, and I am updating accordingly. Still, if you aren't worried about dairy or egg in your food, this place is...
Read moreWhenever I go somewhere new I like to try out the vegetarian restaurants. In London they ha e Meredith's, Ethiopia nearly all the restaurants offer tips. In Ecuador, a meat centric location, has el maple in quito.
I tried their take on a traditional meal. It was nice. I think the menu has undergone changes over the years as previous reviews mention pizza. Those no longer are offered.
Location was nearby the hotel. Lively neighborhood in the evenings. On a Friday I felt sage to wander around after dark but it was spent before 10pm.
Glad this restaurant is here when 95% serm to cater to traditional meat...
