Hostel Baltra, also known as "Galapagos Apart & Suites". Our reservation was under "Galapagos Apart & Suites" which isn't well known to taxi drivers. Our driver went to @ six places before getting the right info. "Hostal Baltra" is well known to taxi drivers. Hostal Baltra is located two doors north (or to the right) of "Banco del Pacifica" on AV Baltra. There is a buzzer high up and to the left of the wooden gate for getting someone to open the locked gate. There is no walk-in lobby from the street. ||Javier, the manager, is very helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. He can answer many questions about restaurants, rental of equipment and things to see and do. The pool is small, but clean and refreshing. There is free drinking water available in the pool area. Fill your own water bottles. No food is available from the hotel. Electricity was the standard U.S. 110V with 3 prong plug. All rooms had private baths. In the Galapagos, toilet paper goes in the provided trash can, NOT the toilet. We used three different rooms during our two stays, #5, #1, and #8. All were very clean, had air conditioners, small refrigerators and ample hot & cold water. #5 was ground level, a single bedroom and bath, but had a nice small private area with a hammock just outside the room. #1 is on the 3rd floor and is a suite with a balcony looking south down AV Baltra. Very nice in the late afternoon / early evening. It has two bedrooms, one with bunk beds. A full kitchen is included. We only saw one air conditioner in the main bedroom for the whole suite, but we didn't look thoroughly for a second one. It was pretty warm in the late afternoon in the suite, but a nice breeze was coming through the large door from the balcony. We are on the equator here, so "warm" is to be expected. #8 was on the second floor, a single bedroom & bath. The air conditioner was kind of noisy. A note on my "four star" rating: I am rating it considering it is in Puerto Ayora, Ecuador. It would not rate four stars in the U.S. The neighborhood seems safe, there is a small bakery across the street and many restaurants within a 5 - 10 minute walk. Taxis are readily available on the street. If you are taking the bus from the airport to Puerto Ayora, you may be able to be dropped off in front of the hotel rather than the final stop 4 - 5 blocks further downtown. If you need to get back to the airport from Puerto Ayora, you need to take a taxi to the main bus terminal @ a mile north of town, (first bus at 7AM or slightly before) out to the canal & ferry and a second bus to the airport terminal. Takes @ one hour total.||Would I recommend Hostal Baltra to friends &...
Read moreAfter reading the reviews we chose Hostal Baltra but I can’t see any resemblance to our encounter.||Communication was abysmal- we received standard cut and pasted emails to our questions which obviously hadn’t been read. We were asking about directions from the port and kept receiving responses with directions from the airport.||Yes, good hot showers and the woman on reception was very helpful and accommodating. That’s where it stopped.||We had a kitchen - there was absolutely nothing - no salt, sugar, tea bags: nothing. No kettle, toaster ... it was useless except for cereal for breakfast.||You couldn’t sit on the couch in the living room as it had a big dip in it so you ended up on the floor, there was a tv in each bedroom but not the lounge but there was not no channel in English! ||The toilet system appeared blocked and gurgled all night while the thin curtains let in light - not conducive to sleeping.||The place was reminiscent of a 50’s post war building - stark and sterile.||There are so many fabulous places closer to what’s happening - don’t choose to stay here unless...
