Gardenia Hotel — Hotel in Cairo

Traveling with a ten people group we reserved 5 double rooms. Soon as we arrived at Gardenia the receptionist told us they could not match the reservations because they were full! Whoa, we had reservations confirmed by booking.com but the hotel was already fully booked! The receptionist offered us to stay in (all the ten people) in a dorm, but we refused since our reservations were made to double rooms. Next step she tried to send us to another hotels in the region and as we had no other options, we agreed. The receptionist said that a big car would come by and take us all to another place, for free, but in reality, she got us two guys to help us carry out our baggage through almost ten blocks walking to another hotel. What a nightmare, we were left tired and disrespected. Plus, soon as we arrived in the other hotel, the attendant told us we would not be allowed to check in unless we cancel the reservation in Gardenia - I believe it was made under arrangement between the two hotels in order to avoid a bad evaluation. The hotel located at the 4th floor with no sign at the entrance, amazing location but with very poor amenities ( the building is old with 2 elevators always busy with moving cloth and goods for the companies inside the building, breakfast is very simple, water is not always hot, no soap or shampoo in the bathroom, the shower has none working part, the TV only has 10 local sports channels ).

The staff tried to be as helpful as they could.

As I have seen in other reviews it seems that I´m not the only one that had this problem with this hostel. I booked a room months in advance and when we got there they had given it to another person and expected us to stay in a shared room (lower range than the one we got) instead. When we declined they offer to take us to another hotel and insisted that we cancel the reservation (clearly to hinder us from giving them a bad review on the booking site). Even though I refused to do that, they reported to the booking site that we hadn't showed up at the check-in time to avoid the bad reviews at all costs. Deplorable attitude and lack of respect...
