There are four single beds in the room. The bed is comfortable. The rest room doesn't have liquid handwash only small soaps. The location of the hostel is very good. It is very close to Nasr metro station. Moreover, there are a lot of local restaurants, KFC, McDonald's down the street. However, I will not come back because some guys who work at reception are unprofessional and rude. When I told them that I wanted to extend my stay, every receptionist told me a different price. The short curly hair guy was impatient when I got confused about the price for extension. This also happened to my friend who lived there for a few days. When she told the short curly hair guy and the short guy who wears glasses that she wanted to extend her stay, they kept telling her 250 EGP per night. However, a tall guy who is another receptionist told her 170 pounds per night. The tall guy also told me to pay only 170 pounds per night. In addition, when I checked out, I asked the short curly hair guy if I could leave my suitcase in the corner of the lobby for two hours, He said yes, but it is not his responsibility. I never asked him to keep an eye on my luggage because there are cameras in the lobby. Anyway, I believe that he needs more training. The tall guy and the bearded guy who works from midnight to 9 am are much nicer...
Read moreTERRIBLE business ethics, place is alright inside, a complete dump outside.
Flight was delayed, arrived at 12:30 at night with my GF (14.01.25). He said the room is unavailable despite me paying a deposit: IT WAS MY FAULT he said for not reading the Hostelworld conditions (attached in the picture).
The tone was beyond brazen, accusatory and confrontational.
Simultaneously, he had a woman solo traveller on the phone, whom he was supposed to have picked up (the calls were on speakerphone). She had been waiting 45 minutes for pick-up, her phone was running out of battery, no sim, just landed. She was clearly agitated and worried about her safety and the best the receptionist could come up with is “the driver has no service, call me back in 10 minutes”. - this repeated 2-3 times while we were there.
Overall, given the City, it’s not a bad place but these business practices are unsafe for women solo travellers and unethical for us all. Additionally the tone and audacity to blame me in the way you did. My friend….. i’ll leave it at that.
Thanks for putting us up at Minerva hostel (their other business) for additional cost. And also thanks for not...
Read moreSpent 3 weeks here whilst travelling solo from Australia 🇦🇺. Found this place by accident and given that it was called ‘The Australian Hostel’, I just had to give it a go. Really enjoyed it. I stayed in the deluxe room, which had its own bathroom and a balcony.
The hostel itself is conveniently located in downtown Cairo, with easy access to food, kiosks, 2 main metro stations (Nasser & Attaba) etc. Was absolutely satisfied with my room. Had an absolute ball going out with so many other tourists I met here as well.
Ahmed, Mina, Ramy, Hany and the ‘tourist minister’ Khalid were fantastic hosts with a great sense of humour who were always accomodating. So were the hostel ‘mums’ who really do most of the hard work but don’t get enough praise working behind the scenes.
Just reading some of the other reviews, I really encourage people to align their expectations. It’s a hostel, not the Ritz-Carlton. As a foreigner, this hostel is actually much better than most I’ve stayed at.
Really recommend this place which you will not regret and now has an endorsement by an actual...
