Never seen people so unfit to their profession like the brutes who own and run this hostel. They will offer you a heavily overpriced tour to Gizah for 40 US with their corrupted drivers isolating and bringing you to expensive shops for oils and papyrus; please take the public metro for 1 EGP (0,10 US). Further trips to the desert (100 US) or South Egypt (550 US !!! excluding entrance fees) are beyond good and evil, considering they are just pushing you through public transport service. Save your money and arrange the trips on yourself or visit local travel agencies.A word to the wise: DO NOT CHANGE DOLLARS $ OR PAY IN $ IN THIS HOTEL!They scam guests.Tell you the rate is 10 pounds for the $when it's actually 12!Make sure to know what you're paying for.The owner wanted to charge me 10 Pounds for using the kitchen after 8! Also in the morning the owner raise the PC volume he likes to shout and argue among themselves.
Bed bugs.was itching and had to visit the drug store Dirty dorm(despite the fact that they placed papers everywhere; saying they clean many times a day and extensively on monday-there's nothing of the sort)
The owner's brother keeps violently harrasing female guests. And upon checking out he also asked me to pay "more"than the price i had paid for 5 days without pre-notice(about 6$).He went on outrage dramatic attitude when I said that I should've been informed earlier. On my 3d day ,while setting at the balcony ,Ammar-a staff member asked me if I would be willing to teach him English. he brought in his notebook not waiting for my consent. and after I apologised for not having the time to do so,he started being rude whenever he sees me.Whether it rude or not, it's not professional for a staff member to ask a guest to teach him English.
IN SHORT: IF YOU'RE A SOLO-TRAVELLER FEMALE,BEWARE!! As you'll be an object for harassment and violent- temper of the owner&his brother.
I hope others have a better experience...
Read moreDo Not stay here and DO NOT take a tour with this hostel. All they care about is getting your money and getting you on an very overpriced tour which will deliver on about half of what was promised to you. I was approached 3x in 2 nights asking for a tour. To get you to get onto a tour they will even lie directly to your face. If you try to back out they will say they will refund you some, but once you leave Cairo you're not getting any of that money back. The "tour guides" you pay for to protect you from "everybody begging you and trying to rip you off" are mostly glorified taxi drivers. At Giza our tour guide sat quietly when they were trying to over charge us like crazy for the camels, and lie to us that it is too hard to walk to the pyramids. Do not believe them walk to the pyramids and get pictures with the camels and/or horses there for 10-15 EGP. Also the other "tour guides" will take you to the most expensive places to eat, and when you don't go will tell you you can't find anything cheaper than 50 EGP per person for food. That's just the tour part that I didn't like about this hostel, onto the things wrong with the hostel itself.
There might be 3 rooms in this entire place, the other 2-3 are empty and/or under construction. They do not have a dryer and will hang up the clothes on a rack. This would not be a problem if they did not put your clothes back in your room while they were still wet once the construction guys get back here. They also attempt to charge 3 EGP per article of clothing for the washer. They will negotiate on that, but not too much. Overall if you can avoid this place I would do it's not like it's the only cheap...
Read moreFairly clean, very nice staff. The AC worked, internet was decent. As a solo female, I felt very safe. I also had no problems walking around alone in the neighbourhood. The location is good. There are many restaurants nearby. It’s very convenient for the old Egyptian museum. The hotel is quite small. ||||You can book activities through them. The Cairo activities were overpriced but delivered okay services. I booked the Nile dinner cruise in Cairo, a Giza pyramid tour and a 4 day Aswan/Luxor cruise. The guides were not always very thorough and I never knew what was coming next. ||||DO NOT book Aswan/Luxor activities through them. I paid almost double what other people on the cruise paid(use visitor it was legit and a good price). My guides were not great and they were frequently trying to scam me. They didn’t provide tour guides at more than 3 temples where I had thought I had paid for them. They didn’t tell me in advance so I wasn’t able to make alternative arrangements. ||||If you are looking for a cheap, safe, no frills place to hang out in Cairo, then it’s good. If you are looking for a hotel to help you book activities, I would recommend spending the money on a reputable hotel with dedicated staff for tours or finding a tour agency. Other people on my cruise booked it through the boat or website and paid half the price and got...
