We can’t say enough good things about our stay at La Terrace on Elephantine Island. Mohammed was such a great host. I’ll start by discussing the pros and cons of staying on Elephantine Island. We had some reservations about staying away from the city of Aswan and how it might be inconvenient to stay on an island. I can safely say that if I ever go back to Aswan, I will stay on Elephantine Island. It is so peaceful, no cars, no one trying to hustle you on every corner. It is such a great place to relax after a long day of touring. There are several great restaurants within walking distance, including King Jamaica which had incredible food and views, and Bob Marley which had great food and also cold beer if that is up your alley.
Next, the apartment itself. It is a short walk from the ferry which runs non-stop and is very inexpensive. The apartments best feature is the namesake “La Terrace”. Every morning we would sit outside on the terrace and read and drink our morning coffees while watching all the boat traffic on the Nile. In the evenings after the sunset it was similarly very pleasant to sit outside and just soak it all in.
Lastly the service that Mohammed our host provided, was the best that we have experienced. He helped us arrange tours, taxis to the airport, recommendations etc. He frequently check in with us via WhatsApp just to see how things were going and to see if we needed help. This is where will stay when we...
Read moreIf you are planning a trip to Aswan, Elephantine Island on the Nile , La Terrace Aswan is the guest house you NEED to stay at. The house is so lovely and spotlessly clean. The view of Aswan Corniche from the wonderful terrace are fabulous day and night. Now on to Mohammed, the proprietor. The nicest, kindest, most genuine man you’ll meet. He looked after us like we were family. We flew into Aswan from Cairo but when we arrived in Cairo our luggage wasn’t. We messaged Mohammed just to let him know what happened and even though at this stage we still hadn’t met he took ownership of the issue and just ran with it. He had a car meet us at the airport which took us straight to a pharmacy to buy toiletries before taking us to the guest house. The following morning after making sure we had some breakfast he guided us to a shopping centre where we could purchase replacement clothing. In addition to all this Mohammed looked after all our bookings for tours and trips. He well and truly saved our holiday. The beds in the room were so comfortable and it was so quiet and peaceful. Mohammad, thank you for being the perfect host in your gorgeous house. Best of...
Read moreThe location of the guest house is perfect, away from the hustle at the Corniche of the city side — you can easily cross the river with a public boat ( 3 minutes ride, boat is every 10 minutes ) from the dock at KFC. When you arrive at the Elephantine island, the guest house is only a few seconds remote. The guest house has 2 terraces with a view on the Nile and the city of Aswan. You can enjoy the tasty breakfast with the sunrise.
Mohammed is always reachable for questions and information. Takes care of his quests. The rooms are beautiful and clean. And most importanly situated in an authentic Nubian village.
Thank you for this...
